M
acaroni penguins have yellow or orange feathers on their heads. Macaroni penguins got their name from dandy people because 'macaroni' means 'fancy' and their head feathers are fancy.

Their eyes and beaks are red. They are 28 inches tall and nine pounds. Macaroni penguins are also called Royal penguins.

The Macaroni penguin lives in the South Indian and Atlantic Ocean. They lay their eggs by the Southern Ocean. They lay two eggs.

Macaroni penguins are VERY good swimmers. They swim to get their food. They eat plankton, squid, and small fish. The Macaroni penguins¹ predators are leopard seals and killer whales. Skuas get the unguarded eggs and chicks.

I hope penguins never become extinct.

The End
