"Sam's song"

S
am Carson ran down the stairs as she realized she was late.

"Smile, and the world will change!" she yelled quickly to her grumby brother, Quinn, who was sitting at the kitchen table.

He threw a bagel at her, but she ducked just in time.

When she got outside, she began jogging and singing her songs.

"I lie on this bank side, I smile at my thoughts. I sigh at the many who don't. And I still smile yet, at the few that still do. Lie down on their backs, and sing."

It was her hobby to write and perform songs in front of her school. She enjoyed it tremendously. It gave her a special feeling each week when the music to her songs went into the school carol book.

"I lie on this bank side, I smile at my thoughts. It changes the world, it helps." she sang the last of her song, heard the late bell ring, and ran forward without stopping. "I lie on this bank side, I smile at my thoughts. I sigh at the many who doo-on't. And I still smile yet, at the few that still do. Lie down on their backs, and sing." she repeated the song over and over to herself, in hopes that she would memorize it before the end of the day.

She had written it the day before, and wanted to use it for next week's asembly. Her best friend, Charlotte, smiled at Sam when she saw her singing.

"You've written next week's song already? Don't you give yourself time to think?" Charlotte asked.

"I like to give myself a week off. It's nice. And besides, this song was one I had been thinking about for a long time now, but it felt special to me that I sing it next week."

Charlotte looked puzzled. "Why next week?" she asked.

Sam smiled. "I've written this song for all the people in the world that have been hurt. All the people that have nothing to smile or sing baout. For them. Them."

Charlotte smiled and asked her friend to sing it for her.
