"The Quints"

J
enny liked helping out with the quints. It was fun to take care of 5 nine-year-old s. Until one day. Jenny was baby-sitting for nine-year-olds Kate, Dannielle, Randi, Iris, and Abbie. "Abbie, please get the phone," Jenny said. "Why me? I'm helping Randi get to the couch." It was true. Randi had broken her ankle and decided to spend the day reading on the couch. "Somebody get it!" Jenny said, and Danielle hopped to the phone. "Hello? Danni Sanders." she answered. "'Kay. Abbie!!! Phone for you! It's Sara!" Danni called. "Tell 'er I'm busy." Abbie answered. "She's busy, do ya wanna talk to Iris? No? Okay. Bye, Sara." All of a sudden, a big "THUMP!" came from downstairs. Jenny remembered Kate was going to the basement. She ran to the steps. There was Kate, lying on her back. She was bleeding all over. She had tripped and landed on the cement floor. Danni and Iris were standing behind Jenny. Abbie was shivering on the couch with Randi. Jenny ran down to listen for a heartbeat! . Kate's heart was okay. "Call 911!" Jenny yelled, and Iris ran to the phone.

"Wake up, Kate" Jenny said, as calmly as possible. Kate shook her head and opened her little blue eyes. She twirled a piece of her -covered hair and whispered " I fell down, didn't I?" "Yes," Jenny said, "but you'll be okay".

Kate had to stay in hospital for three weeks. But she was fine. She banged her head so hard that her vocabuary wasn't right. For instance, she would say runned instead of ran. But she was still as smart as other fourth graders. The doctor said it would be seven months until she would be back to normal and to look for signs of inprovement.

And this is a true story. How do I know? Because Kate Sanders is my best friend!
