"Saving the Ship:Mordecai's Destiny"

T
he mist covered the sailing vessel almost completely. Although Cap'n Hardway heard the foghorn bellowing its low alarm, he paid no attention. After all, he had not paid any attention to it 60 years ago, the same fated September night. Again he would lead the unknowing passengers to his watery grave.

It was just like it had been 30 years past. His ghostly self could do nothing less. Ever 30 years an "accident"...it was the only way he could take out the anger on himself;by taking it out on other people.

One man, however, knew his dark secret.70 year old Mordecai Darwin had been just a child of ten when the boat he was aboard rammed into the side of a suspicious ship. Later, in his studies, he had learned it to be called "The Devil's Ship". Although, he did not remember his escape, he knew he could save these people somehow from the same ship. The same ship that collided with the ship his daughter, Katherina had been on 30 years ago. She and her mother had let the Cap'n succeed with his evil deed. Of course, they couldn't resist the fate, but nevertheless, deep down, Mordecai knew that if HE had been there, they would still be alive.

Bracing himself, Mordecai pondered what to do. He spied some wallpaper peeling on his bedroom wall."Perfect!" he thought to himself. He began to pull off the paper. Then he began to mat more on top of it. In the end, he had a slightly uneven cross.Slyly, he attached to the front of the ship. Then he sat to wait.

Amazing the "Devil Ship" still arrived! Mordecai was baffled, but suddenly the memory of that awful night came back to him. He had been visiting with a priest who planned to spread the religion that night, and had been given a special gift: a cross with bits of the actual cross in it to go around his neck. Mordecai never had gotten rid of it. In fact, he was still wearing it. He ripped it off. Then he went out on the deck. He hurled the necklace at the ship. As it touched, the"Devil Ship" disappeared. It was no more.
