"Julie Can Read"
by
Jillian

O
ne day little Julie was in her classroom. She was so excited! But not about anything special, about..... learning? Now why would she be excited about learning you ask?

Well, little Julie was in the first grade, the best grade ever! She was learning to read trhis week, and she had just started to understand how letters fit together to make sounds.

Her brother was in the sixth grade this year, and he always walked her to school. This morning he took her to her desk, laughed, and said,
" I hope you learn how to read soon. You can't be stupid forever, can you? "
Julie thought about this for a moment, then became very sad. Her brother had just called her stupid.

Mrs. Caloolah came in then, and said,
" Hello class! This morning we are going to immediately start working on our reading skills."
Julie was still sad, but she learned anyways. You must understand that saying things like that hurts people's feelings, and how would you like it if someone called you stupid?

Julie came home that night feeling great! She sounded out all of the words in her 7 page story book! Now she would also read it to her brother. At night he sat down with her and she read it to him. He smiled and said,
" See, I knew you would learn! Good job. I love you Julie."
She smiled back and said, " I love you too......Jack."
