ordan and Jon jsut left from school. They were best friends,
and they and one other friend, Corey, were going to a small nearby
wood to goof off.
They got to Corey's house, and
rang the bell. Corey's mom answered. "Oh,
hi. Corey will be ready in a minute. Would you like to come in?"
Jordan and Jon went inside and sat
down.
Then they saw Corey run down the
stairs with his backpack. "All
ready!" he said. "Did you
remember the flashlights?" Jordan asked. "No,
actually. I thought we wouldn't need them." "You'd
better bring them." Jordan said. "You never know when
they'll come in handy." And
with that, they were off for the forest.
Not much had happened in the first
hour or so. They chased a rabit, which proved to be exhausting.
They climbed a fre trees, but most of them were to tall to climb.
Pretty soon, they got bored, and began the trek home.
Jordan loved cars. All types,
especially old classics. And Jon especially loved any type of
muscle cars. And on the way back, they saw a bright red, recently
waxed '65 convertable Mustang! Jordan and Jon ran over to it
and began checking it out. Jordan jumped in the front seat and
got warped into his own littlw world as he acted as if he were
racing it down a racetrack. Jon was fascenated by the insides
of machinery, so he checked out the engine. But when he opened
the hood, he noticed something very strange, but not too surprizng.
The engine was gone. "This is
really lame," started Corey. "We come all the way out
here for what? To chase a rabbit and see a broken down car!"
"How do you close the top?"
wondered Jordan, still in his own little world.
He bagan messing with buttons
and switches. "I wish something
really unexpected would happen!" yelled Corey out loud.
No sooner had he said that than
the trunk of the mustang opened, and the whole back half of the
car slid sideways, revealing a staircase going down under the
ground. The three boys peered down their. "Whoa,"
said Corey. Without hesitation, Jordan
grabbed one of Corey's flashlights and began down the stairs.
"What do you think you're doing,
Jordan?" demanded Jon. "What
does it look like? I'm checking it out! We can't just pass up
this kind of opportunity for and adventure!"
Now Corey grabbed a flashlight
and joined Jordan. "I asked
for an adventure, and I got one, so I had better use it!"
"Come on, Jon!" said Jordan.
"We've been waiting all day for something to happen, and
after it happens, you want to keep on going home?" "Well,
alright, but we turn back at the first sign of danger!"
And
with that, the trio headed down the stairs. Jordan noticed some
papers laying on the stairs and picked them up. When they got
down there, they entered a large, dark room. They began to search
the room for anything interesting. All of the sudden, the all
found something at the same time. They had each found a giant
robot. They were each about two and a half stories tall. Jon
saw the mischevious look on Jordan's face. "Don't
even think it, Jordan, don't even think it!" "Too
late!" Jordan said as he ran to the robot. "Where's
he going?" asked Corey. "Probably
to find out to drive the thing." answered Jon. "Good
idea!" said Corey, and then he was off to do the same thing.
"Aw, what the heck!" Jon
said. And with that, he ran off as
well.
At first, determining the controls
was difficult, but after Jordan found that the papers that he
had found were the instructions, it went rather quickly. After
about an hour, they had gotten the hang of it. Then, Jon noticed
some thing. "Hey, guys, there's
more than three robots moving in here!"
Not long after he said that did
the robot with the unknown pilot punched Jon's robot right in
the chest. His robot stumbled back and barely stayed on his feet.
Then a voice came over t he radio. It was deep and very intimidating.
"If you get out of the robots
now, we will let you live. Maybe." "Okay,
you win. We'll back down." said Jon. "In
a pig's eye!" said Jordan.
Then Jordan punched the enemy
robot in the back. Slowly he turned around. "You
should never have done that, boy." The
intimidating enemey then drew a weapon from its holster and aimed
it at the head of Jordan's robot. But, to the enemy's surprize,
Jordan had taken to the air and smashed throught the roof, which
was only a thin layer of metal, then just dirt. The enemy was
about to follow, when Corey shot him in the side, ruining the
take-off, and causing the enemy robot to crash into the ground,
thus paralysing the enemy. They could here him making idle threats,
but as they watched his robot writhe on the ground, they knew
they had won. "Yeah! We showed
him, didn't we Jordan!" said Corey. "Yes
siree bob! We most certainly did!" responded Jordan. But
Jon was less that exstatic. "WHAT DID YOU THINK YOU WERE
DOING! You could have been killed!"
Suddenly, Jordan had a serious
tone to his voice. "Jon, I found
out how to use the heat sensors, and I found that there is a
building burning down. And the fire station isn't there yet.
We can help. We need to help." "I
don't know, Jordan." said Jon. "We've already risked
our lives once today, I don't know if we want to do it again."
"YOU didn't risk anything, Jon,
and that building is burning down, and taking people with it!
I'm going to help!" said Jordan. "I'm
with you!" said Corey. And with
that, they were off.
When they got there they used
the sensors to locate and rescue those trapped inside. On Jordan's
third time in, he saw a little girl, and the roof was falling
over her! He wasn't going to get there in time! Then, all of
the sudden, the roof stopped falling! Jordan looked over. Jon
had caught the roof!"Well are
you going to rescue her or aren't you?!" said Jon. Jordan
quickly grabbed the girl and got her out.
They were heroes! They took off
into the air. "You know,"
said Jordan, "we could do a lot of good in these! We should
hide them somewhere and use them to help people!" "But
we must have a name." said Jon. Jordan
was glad that Jon agreed. "How
about the Mustangs?" said Corey. "Hey,
that sounds good! Then there we go! We'll be the Mustangs from
now on."
And with that, the three friends,
who had already gotten more that day that they had bargained
for, flew off as a team; the Mustangs!
