Kimberly's "The Mermaid at
Sea"
In this story,
is "Meraid",
is "Fishbowl", and
is "Goldfish".
One day a little
who had just turned thirteen,
that very day, popped her head above the surface of the water.
When you turn thirteen, you are allowed that privelage.
So any way, she popped her head above the surface for the
very first time. She could not believe what she saw! The rippling
waves looked beautiful as they crashed against the rocks and the
air was filled with sea foam, and the crash was deafening. It
was gorgeous.
In the distance she could see uninhabited islands with
their sea palms billowing in the breeze. All of it was very different
from what she was used to, under the surface, in her underwater
home. But not far away, she could see something cutting against
the water. It looked terribly out of place from her lovely land,
which she now knew as her own.
She was so fascinated by it that she threw caution to the
wind, which we all no isn't a very wise thing to do. She floated
there, almost as if she was frozen, watching this very out- of-place
thing. Before she knew it, she was caught in a net, and being
dragged away.
Later, they put her into a large
witha very nice little
named Goldie. "Is
there any way out of here Goldie?" she asked. "Only
when they change the water,"he replied. "They let the
old water fall off the sides and the new water rushes in. You
would have to swin agaisst a currant!" "I'm
very good at that. How often do they change the water?"the
little
asked. "Once a week,"was his reply. "They
change it again tonight!"
So late that night, when they changed the water, the
heald Goldie tight in her arms. "Here
we go!"she said, and
they were off! Soon they were at the open sea. They had made it!
"Please
live with me and be my friend for always!"the little
said. "Of
course I will"said Goldie,
and they lived happily ever after.
