We are a full time 2-3 gifted class in Homestead, Florida. Our school is a technology school. We have atleast fopur computers in each classroom. Each student has an e-mail address and all computers are connected to the internet. We are also a member of the Florida Explorers. This is a weather program which has our school connected to a sattelite. We gather information daily. This is especially interesting to us during the Hurricane season. The 21 second graders in Portable I are experts in both the areas of reading and writing. Through the use of poetry, they learn how to become readers of REALLY hard words such as "demeanor," noble," "filmy," and "serenades." Their favorite poet is Jack Prelutsky. They have Writing Workshop as least four times each week and loudly complain if this perios of time is interrupted for any reason. They have become writers of poetry as well as fiction and non-fiction.
