"The Finding Of Star"

W
e found our new horse, Star, through the paper.

Owning a horse all started with 4-H Camp one summer. Mom wanted us to see that people had not always had car's, and had had to work hard to maintain our horses, that was it. Instead, my brother and I fell in love with horses. So we started the 4-H sponsorship program, sponsoring a lazy Arab mare named Miggle. For one month, and then we couldn't pay the money.

My brother took lessons, but I choose to skate instead. Then we had to move to another state. We were going to move to the country, so Mom thought we could maybe buy some horses a year or so after we moved. That was before we found out the 4-H was closing. They wanted us to take some horses.

David wanted his horse, Sisco, who he adored. I wanted any horse. But Sisco was spoken for, we thought. My mom prayed about it, and the next day, Sisco came available. So we bought him, and then they asked us if we could take Star, a problem horse who they were afraid they couldn't find a good home for. We naively agreed, thinking we could tame Star with love and kindess.

Star was re-named Snoopy, after the dog, and because she was curios. Sisco was re-named Comet, for the blaze on his forehead. We were wrong about Snoopy, we couldn't tame a horse we couldn't control. During the time we worked with her, she added the habits of kicking and bucking to biting, which was a habit from the stables.

Then, one day, she rushed at me and tried to kill me. Having a pitchfork with which to keep her away saved me serious injury. So we asked some experienced riders and friends from our church to ride. And one of the girls fell in love with Snoopy.

It was arraigned, she would purchase Snoopy. But horses need other horses to be around, and Comet needed a friend.

It was 5 months till we saw the add for a Quarter Horse cross mare in the paper. Dad called, we visited the farm where Star, as this horse is also called, boarded. She was the horse for us. A dark bay with a star and snip, this almost black horse was sweet, obedient, and a good horse. So we found Star. And Star will be coming here tomorrow.

Wish us luck!

The End
