昔々、あるところに母さんユニコーンとそのこどもがいました。 母さんユニコーンは、三年前に父さんユニコーンのクリスと一つだったもう一人のこどものキャシーがなくなったことを思い出したくはありませんでした。お母さんユニコーンはキャンダイス、そして残ったこどもはキャリーといいました。 キャンダイスは、キャシーがしんでしまってからずっと、キャリーの無事を願っていました。 たとえば、嵐がくるたびにキャンダイスはキャリーを安全のバブルでかこんで魔法をつかって嵐とたたかいました。 キャリーは4つのときから魔法が使えるようになりました。キャリーはものを消したり出したりできたのです。 それがとってもじまんでした。キャリーはもっと魔法をおぼえたくて、ある夜魔法を勉強するために家出をしてしまいました。（そんなことしなければよかったのですが）キャリーはねむる時間がくるとお母さんがとなえていた魔法のことばをいいました。 こんなことばです； "オンボブ オンボブ、シスコンバー、ラー！！ " とつぜん、もくもくのけむりの中からゆうごはんとテントがあらわれました！ "あああ!" キャリーはさけびました。つのをためてけむりをおいはらおうとしました。それから、テントだけがあらわれたことに気がつきました。こんなことはしたことがありません。いつだってお母さんが守ってくれたからです。どんなにお母さんにあまえていたかやっとわかりました。 "ママ、ママ？どこにいるのママ？" キャリーはショックから立ち直るとお母さんをよびました。そして風のように走りだしました。
"ママ、ママ！きこえたら返事をして！" 何度も何度も大声でさけびました。 それからキャリーはお母さんが元気でいるかどうかを知らずに大きくなりました。 ある日、キャリーは白い馬が放牧されているのを見ました。キャリーは何年も前におぼえた魔法をつかい、その馬がお母さんらしいと思いました。キャリーは、魔法のじゅもんはちゃんとわかっていたけど、ユニコーンについてはわかっていませんでした。
- "ママ？ママ？本当にママ？" キャリーは夢中でききました。
- "ちがうわ、わたしはあなたのお母さんではないし、母親になったこともないのよ。" 年をとったユニコーンはふるえる声で答えました。
- "お母さんじゃないならどうしてユニコーンのことを話すの？ママがいっていたわ、ほかのユニコーンは、わたしが一つのときの山火事でみんなしんでしまったって。" キャリーはちょっといらいらした声でいいました。
- "あなたは最後のユニコーンじゃないのよ！わたしたちが立っているこの地球の下に町があるんだから！そこはわたしやあなたみたいなユニコーンでいっぱいよ！" 彼女はそういいました。
- "ほかのユニコーン？どうかそこにつれていって！" とキャリー。
- "いいわよ。つのとユニコーンのしるしをみせてくれたらそこにつれていってあげましょう。" 年老いたユニコーンはいいました。 キャリーはいわれたようにしました。
- "まあ、ほんものだわ！わたしをユニコーンの女王アガーサとよんでかまわないわ。"
- "おお、女王さま、ごめんなさい。おじぎさえしなくて！" キャリーはそういって、頭を低くしておじぎしました。
- 彼女は、"おじぎなんかいいのよ！わたしは最後の女王とはちがうわ。その女王さまは特別な扱いがすきだったけれど、今ではみんなそれぞれの権利があるのよ。" といいました。
キャリーはその町でお母さんにあってそして三世紀生きました。
Once upon a time, long, long ago there was a unicorn and her child.The mother did not want to face the fact that her husband, Chris, and her other child, Cathy, who was one, died three years ago. There names were Kandice, the mother, and Carrie, the other child. Kandice wished for Carrie's saftey, after what happened to Cathy.For instance, whenever a storm came Kandice put a saftey bubble around Carrie and fought off the storm with her magic. Carrie started to do magic tricks when she was four. She could make things appear and disappear.She was very proud of herself! Carrie wanted to learn more about magic and one night ran away(which she shouldn'y do) to learn more. When it was time to sleep she said a chant she heard her mother say, it went like this: "OM BOB, OM BOB, SHISCOM BAH, RAH!" all of a sudden dinner and and a tent appeared in a cloud of smoke! "EEP!" she yelped, baring her horn to frighten it off. Then she realized it was just the tent appearing!She had never done that before because her mother was always there to protect her. She never realized how much she depended on her mother. "MOMMY?! MOMMY?! WHERE ARE YOU MOMMY?!" she finally called out after she recovered from shock. She ran like the wind! "MOMMY! MOMMY?!IFYOU CAN HEAR ME ANSWER ME MOMMY!!!" she called out over and over again. Carie grew up not knowing if her mother was alive or not.Then one day she saw a white horse grazing. Carrie knew it could be her mother useing a cloking spell she learned so many years ago.She was right about the spell, but not the unicorn. "MOM?! MOM?! IS IT REALLY YOU?!" she asked in an exited voice. "No, dear child, I am not your mother, I was never a mother" the old unicorn replied, in a quakie voice. "Then how can you speak unicorn if you aren't my mother?! She told me all the other unicorns died in the great forest fire when I was one!" Carrie replied with an anoyed voice. "You're not the last! For there is a city below this very earth we stand on!It is filled with unicorns, just like you and I!" she said. "There are others? Please take me to them!" Carrie replied. "Very well child,i will take you to the others,IF you show me your horn and the mark of the unicorns" the old unicorn said. Carrie did just that."Well child, your the real stuff! You may call me Agatha: Queen of the unicorns" "My queen! I'm sorry, I did not bow down to you before!" Carrie said, bowing down her head. "No need to bow down to me! I'm not like the last queen!She thought she deserved speacial attention, well no unicorn has different rights than another here," She said. Carrie met her mother in the city and lived for three centuries!
