"A Tiger Lover"
by
Jen Steffee

I am a strange girl who loves tigers
I wonder if tigers ever tire
I hear the beating heart of the siberian's prey
I want to play with the tigress's young
I am a strange girl who loves tigers

I pretend that I am as fearless as the tiger
I feel the thrill of the tiger's chase
I touch the coarse fur of the tiger's flank
I worry that they might become extinct
I cry when a young kit loses its mother
I am a strange girl who loves tigers

I understand that tigers are endangered
I say let all tigers roam free
I dream of running alongside the white tiger
I try to help the tigers all I can
I hope that tigers will thrive again
I am a strange girl who loves tigers
