"Little Blue"

They make a burrow in sand. It is the only penguin that makes a nest in Australia. The Little Blue is the smallest penguin in the world. They weigh two and one-half pounds. They are 12 inches tall. It eats plankton, squid, and fish. Their feathers are waterproof.

Penguins can't fly because they are too heavy, but penguins are good swimmers because their wings are like flippers.

Some Little Blues have the same mate for their whole life. The mother Little Blue sits on her egg for one month, then the mother and the father penguin take care of the chick for two months.

When the Little Blue is a baby penguin, its feathers are fluffy. And when it gets older, the fluffy feathers fall off, and a blue color comes on.
