One day Fredrick was walking down the street with a hanky neatly folded in Fredrick's shirt pocket. A rubber sandwich was stuffed in Fredrick's back hip pocket. Fredrick was bouncing a basketball. Fredrick found this long piece of pavement with one way stairs and a pole behind them. (Fredrick did not know that these were one way stairs.) Fredrick wondered if he could bounce the basketball up the one way stairs, one step at a time. It took Fredrick five tries, but Fredrick finally made it to the top of the one way stairs.Fredrick woundered how many times it would take him to bounce the basketball down the one way stairs. Fredrick bounces the basketball on the top step. But the basketball did not touch the step. Instead it flew back up into his hands. Fredrick went "haya!". Fredrick was very puzzled. What just happened to me?
Fredrick tried again. The basketball again flew back to him. Fredrick went "haya" twice! Fredrick tries to put his foot on the first step, but his foot slides and Fredrick fell back up the stairs. Lucky for Fredrick when he fell, he fell on his rubber sandwich, so he bounced back up on his feet. Fredrick starts crying, because he can not get down the one way stairs. He stops crying because it will not help him. Fredrick dries his tears with his hanky. Fredrick sits down to think and bounces back up, does he have an idea!, no, remember the rubber sandwich!
Fredrick thinks standing up. Fredrick finds a wire nearby. "Yaha!" Fredrick gets an idea. Fredrick takes out his rubber sandwich and sticks it on the top of the pole behind the one way stairs. Fredrick wrapps the slightly wet hanky around the wire. Fredrick bends the wire into a circle shape and stuffs it into the rubber sandwich. Fredrick picks up his basketball, he jumps up, grabs the wire, pushes the stairs out of the way, and jams the basketball through the hoop made by the wire. When he lands, Fredrick is back on the pavement! Fredrick had done it!
Fredrick ran home, called all his friends and played basketball the rest of the day.
