o it' s true he thought, it's really true. Jerry stood there in amazement as his mind raced for an answer. He was no longer with the others, but back in his own world. Jerry was remembering everything to make sure it was real. Friday he thought, that's when it started.
He was in his bedroom searching for some more paper to write down his formula on. His desk was stained with the colors of his chemicals and his white lab jacket was splattered and worn. He had a science project due and he was using his own time to finish it. His buddies had gone to the football game and usually he would tag along, but not tonight he was going to have a break through. "Lucky, at least you are here for company," Jerry chirped to his frisky huskie. All he had to do was put in a touch of baking soda and the project would be complete. Jerry decided to go take a break and he wondered off to the kitchen trying to find any leftovers from dinner. Lucky was up on Jerry's lab area and sniffed at the different chemicals. For some reason he found a chemical appealing and started to wag his tail. All of the chemicals fell on the floor and mixed together! Lucky knew he was in trouble.
Jerry heard the noise and ran up stairs to see what was going on. He didn't see the puddle and sliped and fell right in it! He fell striaght through it, it was as if he never hit the floor. It turned dark and Jerry was falling and falling. When Jerry woke up he was no longer in his room. He layed on grass that was greener than he had ever seen grass before. A warm lick came across his face and he knew it was Lucky. Jerry arose from the grass and was stunned to find himself in a totally and completely new place. The world around him had changed drastically. There were tall trees that looked like skyscrappers and rocks the size of a school desk. Jerry walked around the forest with Lucky trying to figure out where he was. As they took a few steps, Lucky sprinted forward! Afraid of loosing his dog , Jerry ran after him. "Lucky stop!" he yelled. When Jerry came around the corner of a rock he found Lucky attached to a little man.
"Get off of him!" Jerry demaded. Lucky slowly let go of him and put his tail between his legs. "UGH! Nasty beast, I should have you changed for that." cried the little man. "I'm sorry for that, my name is Jerry and I was hoping you could help me get out of here?" The man stared at Jerry as if he was dumbfounded. His face lost color and everything became extremely silent. "I am Herme and my name shall never be forgotten. I am king, owner of the Harp and of this domain." Jerry burst into laughter which insulted Herme. "I'm sorry but you have gone crazy!" Jerry exploded. Herme turned bright red and steam came out of his ears. "You will be sorry!" Herme screamed. " Why...why I should curse you for this disrespect!". With that Herme ran off towards east. Jerry was to busy laughing, but Lucky noticed.
No time had passed before both Jerry and Lucky heard music. It was lovely and Jerry was distracted by its beauty. The enviroment changed. The grass became dry sand and the tall trees were now cactus. The beautiful forset was changed to a desert waste land! As quickly as the music started it stopped. It happened so fast without any warning. Now he was even more confused then before. All he knew was he couldn't walk around much mored without water. Lucky headed towards the east and Jerry followed. The heat was getting to him and he was seeing things that weren't there. Soon enough they found a puddle of water almost to small to drink. Jerry dunked himself in it and began to hear the music again. He was so close to the edge of consisness he didn't know if it was real. The little puddle became a cool, flowing river. Lucky and Jerry both dove in letting the water cool down their hot and sweaty bodies. " Aw! It's so refreshing Lucky, isn't it boy?" Jerry asked his dog. Lucy gave him one of those cute dog smiles and barked an approval.
Soon enough they got out of the river and decided to walk along its banks. The animals from the land came around the river, thirsty just as they had been. When they had taken their drinks the animals followed Lucky and Jerry. It was as if they had found a long lost friend or a neighbor who decided to never come back. Jerry found it extremely odd but Lucky enjoyed their company. The walk seemed to go on for miles, but there wasn't a hurry for anything and Jerry was beginning to name all the rabbits, foxes, birds, and squirrel that were following him. When he looked up from the last rabbit the harp hit him like a homerun swing. There it stood, so undescribablely beautiful.
"It is true" he whispered. He had come back to reality and knew what he had to do. The harp is the key and if I play it I will surely go back home. He could almost smell his dirty socks on the floor in his bedroom. There was no sign of Herme, it's either now or never he thought. He ran across the stepping stones of the river and made his way to the harp. Before he could get a finger on the harp, Herme jumped out of no where! Herme seized the harp and gave Jerry a blank stare. "Herme what a pleasent surprise" Jerry said sarcasticly. "You can't have it! It's mine, I found it not you!" shrieked Herme. Jerry was getting fusterated and grabbed the harp. Now they were both pushing and pulling on it like a tug-o-war contest. Neither one was going to let go. Lucky jumped striaght for Herme knocking him down. Now Jerry had full rein of the harp! All Jerry was thinking about was home and as he played the harp it became as dark as night. The ground fell beneath him and Jerry no longer was aware of what was going on.
When he woke up he found himself laying on his bed. The sheets were still made and no one stirred in the house. The science project wasn't there and it was as if he never started it. The puddle of chemicals was gone and Lucky was laying down on the carpet. Jerry got up and walked to the bathroom. He looked in the mirror and saw that he was fine. It was a dream he thought, only a dream. Then something caught his eye. There was a piece of string on his shoulder. He picked it off his shirt and pulled on it so it was tight. He pricked his finger on it and a beautiful note played. "That's impossible, if it was a dream how do I have this on my shirt?" Jerry questioned. "Was it real?"
