nce there was an explorer, who became governor. Before he became
governor, he mapped much of the northeastern part of North America.
Champlain discovered a lake, which was named after him. It is
on the border of New York and Vermont. In 1609 Champlain helped
the Huron Indians fight the Iroquois Indians. He discovered Lake
Champlain in 1613. On the way to the Great Lakes, Champlain went
back to France and became governor in 1633. This great explorer
died on December, 1635.
