"My Finest Hour"

A
ll people have a finest hour. Some are better than others. My finest hour happened very recently. I learned to fence sabre in one hour and fifteen minutes which is a good accomplisment.
Considering it was my first time ever fencing sabre and I had never held one before I did pretty good. My day started in the usual way, I got up and ready for school, get on the bus and go to school and have a boring time. But I knew that today I was different, I had fencing today. In case you don? know there is a fencing program at the Romeo Community center every Tuesday. I learned of it from a friend. Seeing as I am naturally attracted to swordplay I immediately began. Anyway I first learned to fence foil first, it is like a metal whip. Eppe was the next, it is a thick, V shaped metal pole. And finally sabre, a flexible yet sturdy and light weapon. Anyway the instructor set up three strips, eppe, sabre, and anything. There was always a match on the sabre strip but there were two extra sabers so I naturally challenged my brother to a match. Usual moves and combos in sabre consist of headcut sidecut, sidecut headcut, or any of these on there own. Sabre fencers usually charge each other and attack two tofive times before backing up to regroup. Anyway he accepted my challenge for which I was very grateful. When we began I jumped at him with a headcut, this caught him offgaurd so I landed a hit. The next time I wasn? so lucky. My brother fired a headcut which I blocked and a sidecut which I failed to block. By the way sabre hurts a lot. We continued in this way for a while. In the end I won but had a few bruises. I fought another match against Harry, an ill-behaved hyper kid and one three to two. He also had a lot more experience than me. All matches are fought up to three or five touchs ( a point in fencing is called a touch ) so there are no ties. All and all my finest hour was when I learned to fence sabre well and won a few matches.
