Every day, Pokey would play alone in the meadow. Then, one day, Pokey had a brilliant idea! He took pink paint and painted himself pink! But just as he walked out the door, it began to rain. All the paint washed off Pokey's skin. Pokey was sadder than ever. He just laid down in the rain in the meadow, thinking about what tomorrow would be like for him. The next day was very sunny, but Pokey didn't care about that. He just wanted some friends to play with. He wondered if even one pig liked him - but that just made him more sad. Just then, a pig named Wilbur walked up to Pokey and said, "Why do you have dots? They are cool!" Pokey was delighted! He did not know what to say. Pokey knew that from then on, he had a friend. One day, Pokey's friend Wilbur went to tell the other pigs about his new friend Pokey. But when Wilbur asked the pigs to play with Pokey, they said they did not want to play with him. Wilbur told them that Pokey was fun even though he was different and they finally agreed to play with Pokey. They went across the meadow to where Pokey lived, not even
noticing the dark clouds that began to form in the sky above
them. All of a sudden a huge storm came and almost knocked all
of the pigs over. Worse yet, they saw a very strange object coming out of the sky right towards them. It was very windy. They were frightened and didn't know what to do. But just then, something came running out of the darkness. It was Pokey! He came to save the day! Pokey's friend Wilbur ran to Pokey and said, "Where have you been"? Pokey said he was just resting in the field where he lives and was frightened to see the very strange-looking object up in the sky. Pokey was worried about his friend Wilbur because he knew Wilber was out there somewhere. Pokey then brought all the pigs back to where he lived so they were safe from the storm. Then all the pigs came over to Pokey and said "Hi Pokey! Thank you for saving us! You are our best friend!" Pretty soon the storm passed and it was bright and sunny again. Pokey and his new friends played in the meadow and Pokey was never lonely again. The other pigs learned they should never make fun of someone else just because they look different. |
