""A Mission into Space""

I

t was about ten or eleven or even twelve 'o' clock. I can't remember; my memory is too vague and vivid. It happened so quick and too fast for me to realise where I was going or what was happening to me. I know something must have happened because it was cold. The atmosphere around me was unfamiliar- it was definitely not my bedroom. I could hear strange noises now and again. I was terrified and really panic-stricken. My heart was beating rapidly. It felt like it was going to spring out any minute. It was like a basketball bouncing every second. It was very quiet, everyone must have gone to bed except me. Where am I? (I thought for a second). The only sound that was audible was my heart beat. "BEEP BEEP."

The noise came again. I let out a scream. I shouldn't have done that, stupid me. I really regretted it afterwards. My parent's bedroom was only next door but why didn't they hear me? I tried to speak again. No sound came out; my throat was dry. I tried to shout but all that came out was a quiet hissing but roaring sound. I coughed- nothing seemed to work. If Sarah was here she would comfort me but she is nineteen now and moved out a year ago. I hated it without her. She would have gone downstairs and checked it out for me. Unfortunately I'm the baby of the house. Too imaginative and a coward in my point of view. I'm scared even to the sight of a spider.

Chicken, chicken Emma is a chicken," yelled the boys at primary school. I can still remember the awful bullying I suffered. The noise came again,
"BEEP BEEP."

Oh, why does it have to happen to me. Please God help me. When I tried to move under my duvet cover the whole bed jerked. I waited for the long dead silence again. Then I slowly moved forwards in a snail's pace. It felt safer being under a protective shelter. My legs were on my pillow and my head was facing the window. My bulging eyes was curious to know what was happening in the peculiar outside world. The moon's white light reflected into my eyes. It was beautiful, I stared at the magnificent ray of light for a long period of time. It felt relaxing and I felt guarded from any demons and evil floating around the earth. The ghost unexpectedly concealed the heavenly body. All the brightness was now blocked. The white spirit slowly hurried past.

"BEEP BEEP." I heard it again but a hundred times louder and much closer this time. A massive machine-like metal gadget flew past the moon. Its light was brighter than the moon! I couldn't believe my eyes. I was astounded by the amount of noise it produced. Other people must have been woken up or.. was I one in a million people who just happened to be awake? What was that. It wasn't a helicopter or a plane or an aircraft. Even worse was that my bed started rattling and shaking. The whole room started vibrating. The walls of my bedroom seemed to shut on me. To me this experience felt like being stuck in a cube that was shaken by someone aggressively. Fumes started to puke from everywhere. The whole room was dusty. I have got asthma and I was helplessly searching for my pump which was lying around the wooden flooring somewhere. I needed it urgently or I could die. I fell on the floor banging my head on the sharp, pointy corner of my cupboard. Ouch! AARRGH! I was moaning in agony. ! I wished someone could help. Then I was very lucky to have another load of books toppling over me. I also found my pump bouncing off my head and landing on my bed. I dived on my bed and instantaneously sprayed it into my mouth. Then stuck my head outside to breathe in a gust of fresh air.

My bed unexpectedly started moving forwards and backwards, each time banging into the surrounding walls. Suddenly it crashed with full speed into the window, causing it to crack and break off. My journey to space began. I was flying over trees and houses and cars. The further I moved away, the more little the world looked. They reminded me of my doll house. My bed suddenly stopped like it knew where it was going and threw me across. I screamed as loud as I could. "HELP, HELP PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!" I was heading towards a small silver UFO. I blinked, was I dreaming or was it really happening to me?! I shaked my head just to make sure. The circular door opened and I was absorbed into the space craft. Green aliens approached me pushed me to my seat, dressed me up in a funny white thick suit, stuck a helmet on my head which was attached to an oxygen pump and put a seatbelt on for me. I could hear the speed slowly increasing because the wind flew past us like 1000000m/second. My ears started to pop and it was very painful. The aliens on board started approaching me. All I wanted to do was escape but I was stuck to my seat like glue. They called me earthling and started to talk to me.

They said in perfect english, "Dear earthling, this unexpected journey is very special. You have been picked out of the millions of children around the world to come and join us for a day in space. We hope you will learn something about the solar system around you but also at the same time have fun. We won't hurt you, don't worry we are not evil. Many people are frightened of us but we are gentle creatures like you. Myths and silly childrens' books have portrayed us as sinful beasts. Fortunately we are the total opposite. One of our main policies is not to harm earthlings or any other things that surround us. If you put this funny sunglasses on before you look out your eyes won't get damaged by the powerful light outside. "
I replied in good manner, "thank you. May I know your name.?"
"My name is Ben," the alien replied kindly. "thanks Ben".

I looked out, with head phones plugged in my ears. The head phone was explaining every motion that was taking place outside me. It was saying that we were just passing the Sun which is the biggest star in our solar system. Ben sat down next to me and explained that the sun is at the centre of our solar system. He described the facts about the sun in an understandable format. I noticed that he was very manipulative with his fingers as he talked. He said, "The sun allows us to live by giving us massive amounts of light and heat. The earth orbits the sun and takes one full year to go all the way around. This is called a 'revolution.' One full year is 365.25 days. We have 365.25 days in a year and not more or less because it takes 365.25 days for the earth to orbit the sun.

We can see the moon because light from the sun is reflected off the moon. We will now see the moon in closer detail. As you can see, the moon consists of many lumps and sharp bits sticking out. When you were looking out of the window, you only saw the moon as a flat surface but the surface of the moon is not smooth or level. There are lots of shadows and circles found on the surface of the moon. Here in front of you is a small flat screen. This screen shows a picture of a small area in the universe magnified lots of times. There are nine planets in our solar system. The planets are often divided into two groups. The groups are referred as the four inner planets and the five outer planets. The four inner planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. The five outer planets are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Between Mars and Jupiter there are asteroids. Each planet has at least one moon. The force of attraction that holds all of the planets together is called 'gravity.' Gravity is also the force that keeps you attached to earth. When you throw a ball, the ball always comes back to earth because gravity pulls it towards the centre of the earth. If the same ball was bounced on the moon's surface the ball would reach the ground much slower. It would float in the atmosphere for a longer time before it reaches ground level.

Here is a picture of the solar system. The solar system show the pictures of each individual planet that humans know. Did you understand that?"
"yes it is very interesting and can I ask you a question?," I said in a little tone. "yes dear, the whole point of this journey is to teach you new, exciting things. That means that you can ask as many questions as you want. What is your question then.." asked Ben politely. "How old is our solar system, Ben?" "Our solar system is very old. Scientists believe that our solar system is about 4.6 billion years old, although I think that it began forming over ten billion years ago. After some time, swirling gases forced the middle of the solar system to collapse and it became what we now call 'the sun'. the remaining mass crashed together and formed the 'planets'.
"Wow that is so cool and really amazing," I replied.
"Unfortunately, time has come and you have just spend two hours with us. My leader is telling me to drop you home safely, but before we go you can choose to go anywhere in space. Is there a particular place that you want to go to?"

I didn't know where to go in space because everything was totally different from earth. I didn't even know about most places in space so I thought about this for few minutes. A place what I really wanted to go to was to the habitats of aliens. I wanted to know how they looked and what they spent doing most of their time. I was so eager to know so blurted it out. I could see the shock in Ben's face but I strongly wanted to see it as I thought that it may be interesting. Ben went away for a few seconds and returned with a happy face. I knew it meant good news so I smiled too. He told me that I could go and see the entrance of the village he lived in but not inside it.
"Why? I asked in a sweet but disappointing tone. "Its too dangerous. My friends and relatives have never seen an earthling before and they might not feel safe with you being there because we sometimes have strangers entering our time hole which we find very disturbing. The strangers usually have this little machinery that flashes as they press a button. We have never seen anything like that in our world and therefore are very scared of any future visits by newcomers. I'm sorry about this but we don't want to ruin this magical experience for you that is why we have decided to pass our limits and allow you to see our gateway to our X-zenia land," Ben said patiently.

I felt sorry for them because I felt bad for the trouble I caused him so I replied in an apologising tone, "I'm sorry, please forgive me." "Don't worry, its ok." "..we are approaching gateway 7B69 to the left of the right wing on passageway 95BC please hold onto your seat very tightly. Check if your seatbelt is on and that you are free from any obstructions. In case of emergency please duck your head so it touches your laps and face downwards. Please do not talk and press the red button on your right if you are ready as soon as possible. 5..4..3..2..1..we are now 698m..600m. 578m.. 500m.450m..200m..50m above ground level. Please be seated until you are told to leave your seats. In the interest of security please don't forget to take your belongings with you.." the announcer spoke in stern voice.

Ben began to speak. "Is everyone OK, you can now take your seatbelts off and take your belongings with you if you live at gateway 7B69 to the left of the right wing on passageway 95BC. Everyone else please be seated for about 15 minutes. Thank you for your patience and helpfulness," he reported.

I did as I was told. They then took me outside. I was directly hit by the bright, beaming light. It looked very magical and seemed like fairy's habitats; the gateway was very stunning, attractive and exquisite. The brightness made me feel dizzy. I suddenly collapsed into Ben's warm arms.

The next day I woke up to find myself in my warm bed again. I looked straight ahead to see if my window was broken but everything seemed normal and perfect. My room looked tidier than usual and my bedroom wasn't covered in fumes. I must have been dreaming I thought, but it seemed so genuine..but impossible.

Suddenly I thought I saw Ben blinking at me!
.. I shut my imaginations behind me and got up for another boring day ahead me.
