Tony was on a daily schedule and he knew what was coming next. This time it would be different because he was ready. Tony ducked as a spitball whizzed past his head. It hit its new target, Mrs.Blumble, with a deadly Smat! John, the bully, was stupefied with the straw still in his mouth. He was ten feet under trouble now. "Mr. Sumusk, please step outside." Everyone knew
that when Mrs.Blumble used a person's last name the next room
they'd see was the principal's office. "I thought I made
it as clear as a whistle that spitballs were strictly forbidden." Mrs.Blumble paused to write something down and said, "The principal's office, NOW!" even if you weren't listening you could hear the "now" through the door.
Throughout the day Tony got notes from everyone in school, although he could only manage to remember two of the many notes he got: Tony, Tony liked this one most because 1)he needed a way to escape
John ,and 2)It was from Cindy, the prettiest girl in the 6th
grade! Here's the reason for number 1: Tony So that day Prince Purplett started to secretly pack his bags. When the night came he flew down to Earth with a week's worth of supplies. He didn't know at the moment, but he was a block away from Tony's house. The only thing he did know was that he was a week's journey away from The Rock and a ten minute flight away from Purple Palace. He marked the spot with a purple-lined box. -Back At School- "Cindy! Hey!" Tony was surprised he hadn't seen her before. She was inside the twisted jungle gym. He ran over and hid there too. "Go for his ankles Tony! They're his only weak spot, trust me it works!" "Thanks Cindy! See ya' after the fight because here he comes!" "Bye Tony!" As Tony left he was in a daze. Cindy had talked to him! He must be the luckiest person in the world! He wasn't dazed long, though, thanks to John. "You have guts Tony Johnson! You were my spitball's target, and only you! Now I got a week's detention. But you, you're going to have a broken arm!" Tony could see how mad John was and his stomach started to tie itself in knots. "Tony remember, go for his ankles!" Cindy whispered in his ear to reassure him. Then she did something that helped Tony so much he could've died! "Hi, John" Cindy said in a sweet voice. John looked over at her and Tony took the opportunity and dove at his ankles. a scream belted out of John as Tony grabbed his feet. Even through that attempt John was on his back in an instant. Somehow Tony managed to stand up, but John was standing up there right with him. Tony saw John clench his fist and swing it back. Tony ready himself for the blow when... -At a Different Part of School- As he landed he saw a human stiffen to receive a blow from another person. Little did the scared person know, he wouldn't receive the blow because he landed behind him and scared the other two away with his sudden appearance. The remaining character looked perfect. Dark brown hair, green eyes, great posture, tall, and just what Prince Purplett was looking for. "Was he bothering you, Young Sir?" Prince Purplette's voice startled Tony so much that he almost screamed. Almost. "As a matter of fact, he was about to pun..." Tony's voice trailed off as he turned to look at the speaker. It couldn't be! Tony thought. That's all he could think though because Prince Purplett began to ask him something. "Yes, but why were you fighting?" Prince Purplett had become concerned that this character was too rough-and-tumble to be Prince. "I made one of his spitballs, meant for me, hit the teacher. By the way, call me Tony, and you are?" By now Tony was sure that this was the purple people eater! "I am Prince Purplette, Prince of the Purple Palace Kingdom, home to the purple people. I am to take the throne after my father, but I do not wish to. My people are just too obnoxious! So if you would please except this offer to take my place as prince, Youn...err...Tony." "So you are the purple people eater? Boy! You're asking me to be prince? Of course, my life down here isn't all that glamorous. You saw that bully back there. Well, my mom is worse and having to go to school, JEEZ, it all pretty much stinks! So why do your people hate you? Is it the song?! Do they have it up there too?!" Tony could've gone on for ever if Prince Purplett didn't jump in while he paused for a second. "Yes! They have the horrid thing down here too? Oh, darn! I'll get used to it. Now let's go. You have to pack your things, and I have to pack mine too! We must hurry now come on Tony!" Just one thing. How are we going to do it? I can't go up there like this, and you definitely can not stay down here like that! We'd have to...switch bodies or something! How are we going to do it?" "You just leave that to me, Youn...Tony. Now HURRY! We must get started!" Boy can he yell! Tony thought as he led Prince Purplett to his house. Then he wondered how Prince Purplett could see him. He was so high that Tony couldn't see him anymore. "CLEAN YOUR ROOM TONY!" Tony's mom yelled as he walked through the door. "I ALREADY DID!" Tony thought, I don't have time for this! He knew he would have to make time though because his mom never took that answer. "No, all you did was shove everything into your closet! Now, GO CLEAN YOUR ROOM!" to Tony, when his mom yelled at him nothing in the world was louder. Not even an earthquake tornado, thunderstorm, and ten purple people eaters could out do her. "FINE!" Tony replied. He was so frustrated now. Then he thought about going to the Purple Palace Kingdom! No more mom yelling her head off at me! Oh, how good that'll be! "I have to clean my room, Prince. So you'll have to wait about ten minutes! Sorry!" right now he didn't care about what the Prince would say back. He just wanted to get out of here and go to the Purple Palace. "Okay! Here let me help!" Prince Purplett did something to make his horn start glowing and then, suddenly, the room was sparkling clean! "WOW! How'd you do that? Will I be able to do that?! This is so cool!" All anger was lost at that little trick. Tony didn't even know that was only the beginning of Prince Purplett's power. "Don't worry about that now. Start thinking about what you want to pack. This won't be too long." Tony down and started thinking with his eyes closed. Toothbrush, toothpaste, blankets ,pillows.. "All of that will be provided Tony. Now think clothes and other things like that." Tony didn't even bother to ask how he knew what he was thinking. He trusted him. Then, he cleared his mind and started over. Shorts, pants, Tees, sweats, long sleeves, hair dye, some books, my journal, pencils,.. the list went on for several minutes and then Tony opened his eyes to yet another surprise. All of his things had been packed into a trunk marked: Prince Tony's Things, and Prince Purplett's things had found the right spots in his room. "Now that's amazing! So where are we going anyway?" Tony's eyes felt like they could've popped out and shot around the world! He couldn't wait to do all of the amazing things Prince Purplett was doing. "Too hard to explain to you, but you'll see soon enough. Now we must go!" "What about my mom? How'll we get away from her?" Tony asked. "Already taken care of! Now come on we're going to be late! Tony's confusion was flooding his body ever since he had met Prince Purplett. He was nearly half way full and it had only been an hour since he met him. Tony decided to just stand back and not ask anymore questions.
In the next five minutes so many amazing things happened that confusion was leaking out of Tony's ears. He had been tied to an actual jetpack, and then had the jetpack tied to Prince Purplett. Much more happened than that, but no book in the world could hold enough pages to tell what happened. "Now, when I say go press down on both buttons and jump. If I say bleach, that's what you call left, push down on that button. Champion is the same only on what you call the right side. Okay?" Tony nodded. Everything happened so fast after that nod. Tony heard a "GO!" bellow from Prince Purplett's mouth and he jumped off the window sill. As soon as Tony was off of the window sill he lost sight of Prince Purplett. He was traveling as fast as, no faster, than a rocket! In than you could ever imagine, they arrived at Purple Palace. If you ever experienced being taken over by amazement then you know how Tony feels, only ten times less. The palace was made of some sort of sold lavender brick, yet it looked so fragile that asigh could have knocked it over! The buildings surrounding it were made of solid gold, too! Yet the thing that won Tony's attention was the people. Yes, they were purple, but that wasn't the only thing, they could fly! Tony couldn't take it all in at once. His legs collapsed under him like jelly. Tony couldn't imagine living in a place like this, let alone ruling it! "You can't possibly think that I could rule this place! It's too...too..." "It's not that great when all of those people out there hate you. Now let's get moving! We're five hours late, nearly. Follow me. Stay close, or I'll never see you again" With that Tony, and Prince Purplett set off for the King's chamber. It was a maze of corridors, rooms, and, people. So many people that they could've filled up almost twelve of New York's largest hotels. Tony pinched himself to make sure he wasn't dreaming so many times that by the time they got to the King's Chambers it looked like he had freckles. "Father," Prince Purplett started," I have found a replacement for myself. His name is Tony, and he is fit for a prince. All of the requirements were met and everything. So, please, may I take him to The Rock?" Prince Purplett asked sincerely. "Yes, but just one question, Tony. What is the hair dye for?" King Purpell had been looking through Tony's bags...just in case. "Oh, it's just for a plan I've thought up for when I come back. Don't worry, it's not dangerous. Quite harmless, that is, unless you drink it. "Tony replied. "Okay. Now hurry on. Oh, and I expect him back by tomorrow night Purplett. Good-bye." King Purpell said in a stern voice. With that Tony and Prince Purplett took off again. Throughout the flight Tony got so good with the jetpack that Prince Purplett had no need to say "bleach" or "champion", although he did just in case. "Here's where we stop for tonight!" Prince Purplett shouted as he started descending. Tony, not lacking one bit of common sense, turned his engine down just in time. How he did this he didn't know. A voice just told him to push down on the blue button and twist the handle right three times. "Tony, if you're not too tired I've needed to tell you something." Prince Purplett said as they finally got their legs to work properly. "I'm as awake as ever. Better tell me now." Tony wasn't exactly telling the truth, but he just knew that the story would be so interesting he wouldn't be able to fall asleep. "Well, you've heard my father and myself both mention The Rock. You see, up here, The Rock is the most sacred thing around. We, purple people and purple people eaters, came from that rock. In those few years the purple people eaters nearly ate-off all of the purple people. Then, The Rock took control in the third year, ending The Dark Ages. It turned us into the civilization that you just saw. It was even merciful enough to still give us three wishes for all of our life. I'm taking you there tomorrow. Right now we need to work out what we are going to say. Okay?" Prince Purplett had stepped right onto Tony's turf. He had spent hours as a little kid thinking up speeches to say to someone who is granting you a wish. He knew exactly witch wish to use at this moment. "I know exactly what to say. Oh Mighty Rock. We wish to switch bodies and to be able to switch back at any moment. If this pleases you please make it so. After that we will have switched bodies and be able to come back and switch bodies again if we're not happy with our new lives. What do you think?" Tony half expected Prince Purplett to burst out laughing. He had made it up when he was seven. Prince Purplett just stood there mouth gaping and eyes wide. Tony fumed. "I knew it! It's stupid isn't it? I never should've mentioned it!" "No, Tony! It's wonderful! I couldn't have done better myself! How did you think of it so quick?" Prince Purplett beamed at himself. He had definitely picked the right person. Tony was proving himself prince worthy every second. "Really?! Great! I'm worn out now. Lets get some sleep so we can get up early tomorrow. That way we'll be sure to get back to the palace in time." Tony avoided the answer to Prince Purplett's question wonderfully. He didn't want to tell him what a spacey kid he could be. "Okay, I'm just as tired." Tony and Prince Purplett had a peaceful night of what their
new lives would be like. "Hey Tony. I'm up. Let's get going!" "Just a second, let me finish eating. Don't you want any? I don't know about you, but I haven't eaten since lunch yesterday so I'm starving!" "If I were a human I would agree with you, but I'm not. I don't need food, and today is too important for me to want to eat food." "Well, I'm done. Let's get going. This is going to be great!" Tony was so excited that it felt like Christmas, Easter, and his birthday had all happened in one day. I, Tony Johnson, He started to think once they were flying, am going to be a purple people eater! And not just any purple people eater, but the prince of all purple people eaters! No more mom on my back about homework, grades, or cleaning my room! No teachers, school, bullies, or spitballs growing in my hair! Just plain ruling a kingdom. It can't be as hard as my life was, can it? Prince Purplett laughed to himself. Tony thought that his life was hard than his. His life is so much easier than mine, he thought, Just dealing with a mom, a bully, and school is heaven compared to what I face every day. Well, maybe the bully is harder than I think it is, but that's the only thing. I hope my life isn't too hard for Tony. I mean he's smart, but is he smart enough? He should do an excellent job though. In fact, I know he will. Or at least I hope he will.
"Prince, it'll be fine! Let's go, and when we get back you'll be able to tell everyone that you got a wish from The actual Rock. Tony did the best he could do to comfort Prince Purplett. Comforting people isn't the thing that Tony does best though. "Thanks Tony. Well here we are. Let' start!" Tony and Prince Purplett had practiced saying the speech together so many times by now that no matter what happened they would be saying the exact same thing at the exact same time. "Oh Mighty Rock," They started, "We wish to
switch bodies and be able to switch back at any moment. If this
pleases you make it so. Thank You Might Rock!" they ended.
"Prince! What's wrong? Can you here me? Prince!" Tony was horribly worried. Everything had been going so smoothly! Why did this have to happen? It had all been so perfect! Something inside Tony told him to take him back to the King. He picked him up and Flew off to the King with amazing speed. In almost five minutes Tony was standing by the King telling him what happened. "He collapsed! What's wrong with him? Is he going to be okay? Tell me he's going to be okay!" Tony was worried beyond worried. What if The Rock didn't like the wish so he hurt Prince Purplett to repay for it! Oh, this is all my fault! "Don't worry so much! He'll be okay. It's just from the down-power. He should come-to any minute now. As every minute went by Tony's anxiety grew. Ten minutes, thirty minutes, an hour, two hours. "You said he would be fine, King!" Tony was furious. It was two hours since Prince Purplett collapsed and King Purpell wasn't even worried. "Well, it was an awfully big power down. No offense. Just a few more minutes, and if he doesn't come-to by then we'll do some investigating." As if on cue, Prince Purplett groaned. He opened his eyes and asked, "Wh...what happened? Oh...I feel so...so tired. What happened?" "YOUR ALIVE!" Tony yelled a little too loudly. He had forgotten how loud he could be as a purple people eater. "Thank God your alive! I thought that you would never wake up!" Tony was on the verge of tears because he was so happy. He thought that he had been to powerless for Prince Purplett to bare. He was okay though, and Tony knew everything was going to be great for the time being. "Yes, but what happened?" Tony jumped into a full-throttle story of the past two hours including all of Tony's thoughts. "Okay just let me rest for a little while. I'm so tired! Give me five minutes." after finishing Prince Purplett immediately fell asleep. Tony sat down to do some thinking. He wanted to have a plan if one of the two didn't like their new life. He thought, I want to meet up with Prince sometime if not everything works out. I don't just want to show up either, I want him to know that I'm coming. So when he wakes up I'm going to tell him to meet me at Bummings Elementary School at 7:OO on December 22nd, 2004. Two years from now. So if any problems do show up we have time to work them out. I just hope that my parents don't decide to move! "No need to worry about that-Tommy is it?- they won't move. Trust me." King Purpell's voice startled Tony. "Is there any way I can keep my thoughts to myself?!" Tony said almost too sharply. He was getting agitated. He wanted to surprise everyone with his idea! Now he couldn't. "Yes, you will learn all of this and more in the next month. Don't worry. Sorry, Tommy. I didn't mean to ruin a surprise, I really didn't." "It's Tony. That's okay. I'll just remember to think surprise or anything until I learn how to keep my thoughts to myself." Tony joked. He was happy that soon enough he wouldn't have to worry that someone was listening to his thoughts. Just then Prince Purplett yawned." I feel so much better now! Well I guess this is good-bye Tony." Prince Purplett was awfully sad. He had grown rather found of having Tony around. "Wait Prince. You have to promise to meet me at Blummings Elementary School's jungle gym, my school's jungle gym, at 7:OO P.M. on December 22nd okay? That's two years from now. You promise?" "Why Tony? There's no point in meeting up with each other again after I leave." This really puzzled Prince Purplett. Why would they want to meet each other again? They were both so sure that their new lives would be so perfect. What could go wrong? "I know what you're thinking," literally Tony thought, "It's just in case. What happens if we don't like it where we live after awhile? We'll be stuck there the rest of our lives! So just promise, okay?" Prince Purplett gave a little chuckle before saying, "You surprise me, Tony, with every plan you come up with. I promise to show up at your school in two years," he would've said more, but both o fthem knew what it was going to be. Neither of them wanted to say it. "Well ,um, I guess we have to say good-bye now, don't we?" Prince Purplett sadly asked. "Yeah, unless...unless I fly you back down to Earth! To my house really, but you get the point. Would that work? Tony was positive that it was a good idea, and it would delay the good-byes by at least five minutes! "It would be if you had lived here all of your life. It's hard to find your way back. Even I still have trouble finding my way back here Tony. So that won't work. It was a good plan though. Well, I guess... I guess this is ... good-bye." If Prince Purplett hadn't turned to walk over to his father he would have seen a tear roll down his cheek, his very first tear as a human boy. Prince Purplett would have seen Tony's first tear as a purple people eater too. His father saw both of them and knew that those two would be so happy when they see each other again in two years. "Jeez, I guess it is. Good-bye, Prince Purplett." Tony was going to miss Prince Purplett being around too. He was going to miss him a lot. "Well, bye. Dad can we leave now?" Then he thought to his dad, I can't take much more of saying good-bye to Tony without bursting out in tears. "Good-bye Tony, I'll miss you." They were gone before Tony could say I'll miss you too. So he tried to give this message to his dad. "Tell him I'll miss him too." With that Prince Purplett headed to Earth in his father's
arms looking forward to a regular, normal kid's life. Tony walked
over to an open window and looked out at the kingdom he would
be ruling for at least the next two years. It was indeed The
Purple Palace Kingdom. |
