"Imagination"
by
Emily

I
hear my dog barking
I see the sun setting
I feel the wind blowing
I smell the meat roasting
I taste the salt in my mouth
But I am not
Listening
Not hearing
Not seeing
Not feeling
Not tasting
For I am in a world of
My own
Letting my imagination go wild
Riding a beautiful horse
Running with a beautiful dog
Through meadows
Through daisies and roses and violets
Smelling the sweet scent of vanilla
Seeing tiny kittens
Feeling the ocean at my feet
Tasting sugar coated peppermint melt in my mouth.
I am a small girl now
One who can jump and leap and twirl as she likes
One who has blonde corkscrew curls down to her waist
Pulled back in a half-tail
But then my father and mother call and
I come back from my dream land
Back into the real world,
Oh, how I wish I could bring
My parents into my world.
