あるところに、ジャーナリストとメイド、それから海洋学者がいっしょに住んでいました（といっても、これはお話に関係ないのですが）。ある日、メイドはつとめ先へ行って、「わたし、もうやめます」と、いいました。つぎの日、ジャーナリストはイラストレーターのところへ行って、「ぼく、やめるよ」と、いいました。そしてそのつぎの日、海洋学者は「そろそろけっこん相手を見つけよう」と、ひとりごとをいいました。

つぎの日、メイドとジャーナリストはばったり森で会いました。２人は家をたてると、毎日、お茶とホットケーキを食べました。３か月がすぎ、お茶とホットケーキだけではくらしていけないと、ジャーナリストは狩りへと出かけていきました（２人はまだけっこんしていないんですよ）。

ジャーナリストが狩りをしている間に、海洋学者が家へたずねてきました。メイドは学者をかんげいすると、「長いこと、外にいらしたの？」と、聞きました。学者は「ええ、そうなんです」と、答えました。メイドは学者に、お茶とホットケーキをすすめました。２人は食べながら、たいそう楽しくおしゃべりしました。海洋学者はメイドのことがたいそう気に入ったので、けっこんをもうしこみました。メイドは「まあ！もちろんよ！」と、答えました。するとそこへジャーナリストが帰ってきて、おこりだしました。「ぼくは君のため、こんなにたっぷり太ったシカを取ってきたのに、学者とけっこんしようとするなんて！」

４週間ももめた後、３人はとうとう海洋学者とメイドがけっこんするのが１番だというけつろんに落ち着きました。けれどもジャーナリストがあんまりかわいそうなので、２人といっしょに住むよう、さそいました。

さあ、これで３人とも、またひとつの家でくらすこととなりました。

nce there lived a journalist, a maid and an oceanographer (that has no affect on the story). One day a maid went to her master and told him she was quitting. The next day the journalist told the illistrator he was quitting. Then the very next day, the oceanographer said to himself, "Now why don't I go and get a wife?"

The next day the maid and the journalist met in the forest. They built a house and had tea and crumpets every day. After 3 monthes they decided it was very hard for them to live on tea and crumpets and so one day the journalist went out to go hunting. (and you have to remember, the journalist and maid are NOT married)

The day that the journalist was hunting, the oceanographer came. The maid invited him in and said, "Have you been out long?" The oceanographer said, "Yes!" and the maid offered him tea and crumpets. While they ate they had a very pleasant time. The oceanographer liked her so well he asked her to marry him. She said, "Why Not!" Just then the journalist came in and started arguing, "Here I bring you a nice beefy deer, and you marry him!"

After 4 weeks of arguing they finally decided that the oceanographer and the maid should be married. They also decided since the journalist was almost desparate, he would write the invitations and live with them.

That way everyone got somthing sorta the way the wanted it.
