あるところに、まずしいおばあさんがいました。おばあさんが家から出てくると、人々はきまっておばあさんにこういいます。「かわいそうなおばあさん。お金をあげましょう」みんなは毎日、おばあさんにお金をあげます。おばあさんはどんどんお金をもらいましたが、あまりたくさんではありません。けれどもおばあさんは気にしませんでした。

ある日、お金持ちのおとこの人が、おばあさんのことを見かけました。そして「小さなかわいそうなおばあさん、なにか元気になるものがひつようだ！」と、いいました。おばあさんは「そうですね」と、いいました。そこでお金持ちはおばあさんに大きくてステキな家を買ってあげました。おばあさんはその家を見て、「おや、これはだれの家ですかい？」と、聞きました。お金持ちは「おばあさんのですよ」と、いいました。おばあさんは「ありがとう、ありがとう！」と、何度もさけびました。お金持ちはおばあさんにお金もあげました。もうおばあさんはびんぼうではありません。お金持ちになったのです。おばあさんはそれから、まずしい人を見ると、お金をあげるようになりました。

nce upon a time there was a little poor and very old lady. When she came out of her house and when people saw her they would say, "You little poor and old lady, I'll give you some money." So they did every day. She got more and more but it didn't look like a lot, but she didn't care.

Until one day a rich man parked in her driveway and she came out of her house. When he saw her, this is what he said, "You little, old and very poor lady you need something to cheer you up" "Yes" she said. So he brought her to a big nice house. "Who's house is this?" she said, "It is yours" he said. "Oh thank you!" she yelled. And he gave her some money too.
Then that lady was not poor, she was rich. And when she saw poor people she would give them some money just to be nice.
