「キャァアアア！！いったい、わたし、どこにいるの？どうしちゃったの？みんなはどこ？」わたしは葉っぱのリジー。大きなかしの木にくらしています。いえ、今では「くらしていました」かしら。かしの木はわたしのお母さんです。「ねえ！お母さん！」と、呼んでみました。ああ、それにしてもわたしは今、どこにいるのかしら？たぶん、大きくなってお母さんからはなれる時が来たんだわ。そうそう、こんな恐い話を聞いたことがあります。大きな怪物のこと、冷たいお天気のこと、そして“落ち葉の山”のこと。“落ち葉の山”には、お母さんの言うことを聞かなかった悪い子が、連れて行かれるんだって。。。。いえいえ、そんなことはないわ。そうでしょう？ああ、それにしてもコートを持ってくれば良かった。ここはなんて、寒いの！そんなことより、恐いお話なんて本当じゃないのよ。「あら？何の音？」

「やめて！そんなはずはないわ。わたし、良い子だもん。お願い！やめて！」

「来たわ！」悪寒がわたしの背筋（本当はクキだけど）を走りました。長いとがったクモのような怪物が地面をはってきました。キャアアアアア！わたしはとうとう「落ち葉の山」に入れられてしまいました。

ところがその時、また別の大きな怪物が来て、私たちを空へと放り投げました。

「わあああ！お空を飛んでるわ！うわぁあああい！」

それから冬が来るまで、リジーとおお友だちは、仲良く、幸せにくらしました。

ahh!" Kerplunk! "Where am I? What's going on? Where is everyone? Hi, my name is Lizzie the Leaf. I live, or used to live, in a big oak tree, its my mom. Hi Mom! Anyway, I'm not quite sure where I live because I just fell off, I guess it's that time, I'm maturing. I've heard bad stories about this place, about big monsters, cool weather and 'the pile'. 'The pile' is a place where bad kids who don't listen to their moms are taken. But...that's not real anyway. Right? It's just make believe. Definetly...yeah...I wish I packed my coat! Brr...well, I'm sure that isn't true anyway. What's that sound?"

"Oh no! This can't be it! I've been good! Oh please, not me!"

"There it is!!!" Chills ran up and down my stem. The long, pointy, spider-like figure was creeping closer. Whoosh! I was taken to "the pile."

Then it happened. A giant beast came and tossed a bunch of us in the air like the pigskin that knocked me from my mother!

"Whee! I'm flying! Yeehaa!"

And Lizzie and her friends lived happily ever after, until Winter...
