Chapter 1
ãHello? Mom? Itâs me Eddie· Mom? Mom?ä
ãNot you too.ä I yelled slamming the phone down.
What in the world is everyoneâs problem? I mean I came from Montreal back to Toronto.
Since I arrived here and whoever sees me starts screaming and running around, or yelling then passing out.
I have no clue what recently happened while I was away, but it sure was something that dozed everyone.
ãYou are my last hope, please donât disappoint me.ä I muttered dialing my home phoneâs number.
ãHello?ä came a soft, trembling voice.
ãUh, hi. I am looking for Mrs. Johns. I am a close friend. What? Are you kidding me? Look, this isnât funny oh god, you people are so idiotic.ä I screamed in the phone, hanging it up furiously.
What is the matter? First, something happens to everyone who spots me walking around, then my relatives and my own mom faints when she hears my voice. After that, I get told that my wife went to Eddie Johnsâ funeral.
Do you have any idea who Eddie Johns is?
Well, that would be me.
But why?
I mean why would anyone want to hurt me?
Everyone respected me; I have been friendly with everyone.
I am 35 years old, enough years to learn what stupid jokes are.
Now this is something I have to find out, being a personal detective myself, that shouldnât be too hard.
But wait a minute, I need to find clues, and I canât just go walking around the city like that.
I have to· wait a second·is this who I think he is?
Yeah, Iâm sure it is.
Chapter 2
What is he doing here?
Could he be· but no, no, no, Chuck wouldnât do something like that; especially after being my best bud, before I died, or so they say.
Should I just go up to him and ask him why he is there, hanging around my house with flowers in his hand?
I knew it, he told me he had a crush on Sue (My wife) for 20 years now, but he, he couldnât be, I just died, my funeral is happening right now.
Let Chuck alone, my wife· I have to check on my wife.
Better go to my funeral.
I have to disguise though, all my clothes are in there, and chuck is just hanging around whistling some stupid notes·
How do I get in?
I looked up.
Yeah, there it is, I can just go up there· oh, how I hate to do this·
I went up the water tube, slowly climbing up with my hand slipping with each step I take further.
I canât keep up; my hands are slipping.
I live in a ten- story house, and Iâm on the tenth story·
It sure is a long way to get up the water tube.
I swung my legs around the tube and held on tightly as I went up.
There, I finally made it.
I stepped in through the window.
What the?
What is all this about?
ÎPolice donât crossâ signs.
Marked body on the floor.
Blood all around the place.
My· my clothes all over the place.
I assume I have been killed.
Or an Eddie Johns has been killed.
I have to change my name, just till I finish solving this mystery.
From now on, Iâll be Mr. Michael Jakes.
That was my best buddy, but then he got shot, and died.
Now letâs see·
Sunglasses, which should never be taken off until I buy new ones, a long coat, hat and my wallet was all I got from my room, I looked down the window, Chuck was gone.
Good, I guess Iâll just come down the normal way now.
Oh would you look at that!
Chuck had left the flowers on the doorstep.
There is a little note attached there.
ãHey Sue, meet me same time, same place.ä
What? Sue? Chuck?
Oh no, this is not good.
Chapter 3
I grabbed my wallet and ran into the next clothes store available.
I got some clothes and a wig, put them on then was on m way to the cemetery.
Oh my god, e-everyone I know is there, and there is Sue.
She has no face expressions at all; she is just looking around as if waiting for someone to come.
My mom isnât there though.
I can see Chuck coming from where I was sitting behind the bushes.
He· he sat beside Sue, they are hugging, he looks like he is trying to comfort her·
But she isnât even sad.
Has everyone been brainwashed?
No, no, there must be something going on.
I moved and sat on the empty chair beside Chuck.
ãSir?â I whispered.
ãYes?ä he whispered in reply.
ãUh, who would that woman next to you be?ä
ãMy girlfriend, we are getting married soon though.ä
ãOhä I think that was a bit too loud, because everyone turned around to look at me.
ãThanks sir, goodbye.ä I whispered and with that I left leaving everyone following me with their eyes their faces full of blank expressions.
There was this guy who was staring at me, but differently.
This kid, I donât remember ever meeting before, he didnât have a blank face on, instead, he had a
Thoughtful look; which made me a bit uncomfortable.
But, for some reason, I felt that he knew what I was thinking of, because when I left, he got up and left too.
Feeling all weird and tired, I decided to go home, well, some place where I could spend the night in.
I went to a motel, where I got room 205.
I woke up in the morning with a pounding headache.
I heard a knock on the door.
That must the roomsâ cleaner or something.
ãYes, yes Iâll be right there.ä I yelled putting my pants and shirt on.
The banging became louder and louder, as if itâs someone that knows I would be there at the moment.
I became really irritated now, and I opened the door.
Chapter 4
ãHi sir.ä Came this soft voice.
ãYou? What? How? Why?ä I stuttered.
ãDonât be surprised.ä He cut in, ã You know me, and I know you.ä
ãYou are that guy that was staring a me during yesterdayâs funeral.ä
ãYes and no.ä he answered.
ãWhat do you mean by that?ä I said, clearing the way for him to go in.
He pushed me and plopped down on the bed.
ãStop that, EDDIE.ä He said with a very deep accent.
ãStop that? Eddie?ä I mumbled
Then it hit me.
ãJason?ä I yelled, my eyes widening.
ãYes?ä He answered nonchalantly.
I said nothing.
I just stared at him with my jaw open.
He then got up and hit me upside the head.
ãWhy are you so surprised?ä he asked indifferently.
ãYou, You died 2 months agoä
He just laughed.
ãYou are dead too.ä
ãHuh?ä
ãIf people are saying you are dead then you actually are, isnât that what you think?ä
Jason was my best friend in the whole world.
But I remember him going on some kind of trip; I think it was to Montreal too.
He was gone for a while, and then we heard he was dead, and we went to his funeral and everything.
Wait a minute, isnât this whatâs happening to me right now?
Thatâs exactly whatâs happening.
ãYou mean·ä
ãYeahä he replied slowly, while looking at me.
I ran to him and gave him a hug.
ãSorry buddy, I was just confused over the whole thing.ä
ãItâs ok, I was too.ä
ãSo, tell me, what happened exactly?ä
ãI donât know, I mean I came back from Montreal, and found everyone saying that I was dead.ä
ãWhat is it with those trips to Montreal?ä
ãI donât know.ä Jason shrugged.
ãWhy did you even go there?ä
ãChuck told me that Montreal was really cool and it was worth visiting it for a change.ä
ãAs for me, my boss sent me on this trip.ä
ãWhat boss? Donât you work alone as a detective?ä
ãYeah but we were in an important mission, and Chuckâs cousin was the leader, he sent me there because I had to find something. I didnât anyway.ä
ãDid I hear you saying CHUCKâS cousin?ä he asked his eyes narrowing.
ãYeah...ä I said slowly before it hit me.
ÎWait wait Jason, Chuck is one of my best buds, he wouldnât want to do that with me, and then my wife is too smart to fall for that.ä
ãChuck and me were on a big competition, seeing that me and him worked in the same business field, but I always sold and made a lot more money than he did.ä
ãGo on·ä
ãSo, he decided to give up that job for a while, and he worked, in· I donât really know he never mentioned, and when he decided to work on it again, he sold an awful lot more than me, I didnât exactly know why, so I became stressed a lot, and thatâs when he gave me this stupid advise of going to Montreal.ä
ãSo, I guess heâs behind all this?ä
ãThat, what Iâve been trying to find out, but I couldnât do it alone, because I am Îdeadâ.ä
ãMaybe both of us can do it.ä
ãThatâs the reason of me being here.ä
ãWell, what do you want to do first then?ä I asked excitedly, jumping up.
ãEAT.ä He yelled, ã I am starving.ä
ãOk,ä I answered. To tell the truth, I was hungry too.
So, he put his wig on, I put on my glasses and we were on our way to the lobby.
In the lobby, we ate and talked.
ãSo, where are you staying?ä I asked.
ãRoom 206, right beside yours.ä
There was this weird looking man, who sat on the table right next to us,
He was eating quietly, as if he was listening to something important, we watched him for a while, we were thinking it was us, so we started talking in whisper, when he leaned in his place, so that his
Head was closer to us.
ãThatâs it, Iâm fed up with him.ä Said Jason, throwing his hands in the air.
He got up, and I followed him, surprisingly, we were heading to the weird manâs table.
ãExcuse me Sir, but what is really interesting in us?ä Jason yelled, eyeing the man.
The man just looked up, his eyes narrowing, and then he got up and left.
Chapter 5
This happened everyday.
We wake up, go to the lobby, find the man, eat, get up and start finding clues, no results, go home, and sleep.
Now, you might be thinking ÎAre they that stupid to not even think of following the man?â
No, we are not stupid, in fact, we did think of following the man, but if we do, he might feel that, and lead us to a different place.
The reason we are expecting that is because he keeps looking behind him whenever he walks, like a person waiting to be attacked from behind.
ãThe funny thing about this, is that I have been killed,ä
ãKilled?ä Jason raised an eyebrow.
ãYeah, I went to my place, and I saw that I was killed.ä
ãThatâs weird, I killed myself.ä
ãWhat?ä I laughed, ãWhy would you want to do that?ä
ãI donât know, I am dead remember? Dead donât usually know what happened.ä
ãWell, how did you know that you killed yourself then?ä
ãBecause I went to my funeral.ä
ãOh.ä
ãYou know, thinking about it, made me really feel that I am dead, you know, different names, personalities, jobs, houses, everything.ä
ãI hear you.ä I mumbled softly.
Thatâs true.
ãI donât really know how much longer I can live with that without going insane.ä I muttered.
ãThen letâs move.ä
Jason stopped the car, and went down an old shop.
ãJason?ä
ãShush· I am Scott here.ä
ãScott?ä
ãYeah Mike?ä
ãWhat in the world are we doing here?ä
ãI donât know, something tells me we should be here.ä
I stopped.
ãSomething like what?ä
ãI donât know.ä
ãJason?ä
ãWhat?ä
ãWhatâs wrong with you?ä
ãWhat do you mean?ä
ãI mean whatâs up with that I feel thing?ä
ãLook.ä He whispered.
Chuck and the weird man were standing in the place, the man behind the counter, and Chuck talking to him.
Then, we saw them too coming out and Chuck gave the man money.
ãSo·ä Jason said, pushing his hands in his back pocket.
ãChuck isä
ãRight, he is behind all this.ä
Then Jason looked at me, and then started imitating my voice.
ãChuck is my best buddy.ä He said in a high-pitched tone.
ãStop that, JASON.ä I said, in an imitated British accent.
ãYou canât even say it right.ä
ãWhatever.ä
ãWatch out!ä yelled Jason, bending and pushing me down with him as a bullet shot right above my head.
ãWhoaä I shrieked.
We heard a maniacal laughter, then fast running footsteps.
ãThe cost is clear.ä I said.
ãWasnât this laugh familiar?ä Jason asked.
ãWhat do you mean?ä
ãRemember? The sheep laughter?ä
ãMr. Richard? No way.ä
ãHe is our enemy.ä
ãHuh?ä I simply said what first came to my mind.
ãOh yeah, that happened while u were away.ä
ãAnd that would be·äI said losing ma patience.
ãOk, when u were in Britain, Mr. 2 faced Richard·ä
Jason paused for a moment as if getting back memories.
ãUh-huh?ä
ãHe blackmailed me into working for him.ä
ãHow?ä
ãWell, he said that he could just give the copy that he had of my personal folder to the company he works for, the biggest gang of searching, and if I work for them, that means I lost ma job, being the best team of detectives, and 1 of us is gone, then both of us are lost.ä
ãBut, it couldnât be him the one who just ran.ä
ãWhy not?ä
ãHe has clubfoot, it wouldnât be easy to run the speed this person just ran.ä
ãClubfoot?ä
ãYeah, and he had it bad enough that he had to bend down whenever he walked.ä
ãHe canât run.ä
I stared at him in a ãDuhä look.
ãCan we go clubbing at this foot of his sometime?ä
I rolled my eyes.
ãCan you be serious for once?ä
He was searching for his keys in his pockets, but he couldnât find them.ä
ãHave you found them yet?ä
ãNot exactly.ä
ãI want to go to sleep.ä I whined.
I have been up for 20 hours now; it was 4:00A.m
ãThen start walking.ä
ãWhat?ä
ãNo keys.ä
ãOh man.ä
I dragged my feet behind me.
By the time we got home, I could hardly open my eyes, so Jason followed me to my room, to make sure I was okay.
I turned the keys in, when both our jaws dropped in shock.
Chapter 6
The room was trashed.
Every paper, folder, every single thing in the room was ripped up and broken.
Jason showed me a note he found on the refrigerator.
ãI just wanted you to practice death.ä
That made me start trembling.
ãWe need help.ä
ãFrom who? We are dead in the peopleâs view, and we can do nothing about it.ä
ãHey look,ä I grumbled,
ãWhatâs that supposed to be?ä
ãA·ä I posed trying to find the right words to describe this·this pathetic, stinky thing I had in my hand.
ãA stinky tube.ä
ÎWhat tube? And why is it here?ä
ãI have no clue, letâs just get to sleep, weâll solve that out tomorrow.ä
ãCome on, letâs go to my room.ä
I looked back, and rubbed me head, before turning the doorknob and closing the door.
ãYou know, we had better wake up early, the room cleaners come at 2:00 we need time to check, and rearrange everything before they see it.
Chapter 7
I woke up with a pounding headache.
Jason was still sleeping, glancing at the watch; I saw that it was 11:37.
Oh well, I guess Iâll go down and get some coffee.
Before getting out the room, I heard Jason mumbling words like ã room· chemical·. tube·protect·missing·. puzzle·. piece·. whyä in his sleep.
ãPoor Jason, everything is going too fast for him.ä
Seeing that Jason was 3 years younger than me, and he had 5 years of less experience, I figured out that he was just confused over the whole thing.
I took a pill for headache before I went out.
But hey, wait a minute, isnât this the tube we found yesterday.
Yes it was, lying on the table.
I picked it up; it did stink all right.
It was obvious that it was some kind of chemical tube.
I just rapped it up with a tissue and put it carefully in my pocket.
I had one last look on my room before going downstairs.
Everything trashed, not a single thing left as it is.
Hey, a wallet.
It was full of· Italian money?!
What has that got to do with Canada?
The gang?
I put the wallet next to the tube, and was on my way.
Chapter 8
Nothing is making sense to me.
I thought as I sat on our usual table.
I mean, what has everything to do with everything?
Chuck, the money, the tube, my room, mine and Jasonâs fake death, my wife, Mr. Richard?
ãMike? Earth to Mike?ä
Mike? I am not Mike? Oh yeah·
I looked up,
ãGood morning.ä
Jason rubbed his eyes and sat in the booth across from me.
ãI have been calling you for 5 minutes now, you have to be thinking about something important.ä
ãNot really, nothing new.ä
Jason sighed a big sigh.
ãWhatâs wrong?ä
ãNothing·ä he said slowly.
ãSomething is wrong.ä
ãNo.ä
ãSomething is wrong.ä I repeated.
I know Jason, if I want to know something, he wonât hold it for long.
Just then the door flew open.
Jason yelled gasped.
There stood his wife.
ãUm·Scott?ä
ãYeah?ä
ãWhat is Larissa doing here?ä
ãI donât know.ä
Out of the blue, Larissa ran over to Jason and hugged him.
What was going on? Jason had his wig, glasses, and everything on, how did she recognize him? Why is she here? How come she isnât scared? And·. What is chuck doing on the table next to us?
ãJason.ä Larissa; Jasonâs wife, yelled.
Everyone turned to look at us.
ãHush.ä We both hissed at the same time.
Jason and me glanced at each other a so ã Hush? Is that what we came up with?ä glance.
I mean god; we just met her.
Larissa suddenly rose, and ran out laughing.
Chuck glanced at us, and then got up.
ãNot so fast, big boy.ä I said, clutching on Chuckâs arm.
ãHi.ä
ãShush.ä
ãFinally, caught you.ä Grinned Jason.
ãCaught me?ä said Chuck as if in shock, before smiling.
ãU mean, caught them.ä
ãUm· Doesnât he sound a bit too weird Jason?ä I asked, backing away.
ãWhat?ä
ãI mean, his voice? The way he is talking· and what he is talking about.ä
Jason got the hint and backed away, letting go of Chuckâs arm.
ãYeah, youâre right, maybe we should be a little bit more car·ä
Jason didnât get to finish; the Chuck cut him.
ãI am watching you.ä The so- called- Chuck.
ãJason,ä I whispered, tapping him on the shoulder.
But he was too busy fighting the will of screaming.
ãJason, look at his eyes.ä
He finally looked up; and eyed Chuckâs.
ãOh my god· Why is this happening?ä
Chapter 9
Chuckâs eyes didnât reflect us; it reflected a picture of a bunch of people in what looked like a· room full of cameras?
Iâm sure they didnât quite expect us to notice that, because as soon as Jason pointed to his eyes, they went dark, and Chuck, or the robot as we might call it, went numb.
But there was some kind of weird noise, chuck carefully lifted a chair, and hit it over the robotâs head.
The head fell of, it was full of wires and everything, but the thing is, it had a bomb!
The bomb was counting 3:00 2:59 2:58 2:57· We had to act quickly.
Jason was trembling, so that left me to get rid of it.
2:50 2:49 2:48 2:49·
No time to ride the car, so I ripped a piece of furniture from the sofa beside us, rapped it around ma hand; then held the bomb.
1 minute left.
I opened a window and jumped out of it, and ran to a near by beach, it was 30 seconds away, and I had 30 minuets left till exploding.
I ran, to the middle of the water, good thing I was tall enough, 5 seconds left, I threw the bomb as far as I could, where it exploded, causing a huge splash of water in my direction.
But I moved fast enough, that I was safe on the shore.
Everyone was looking at me in amazement, but then they all started cheering and clapping.
Jason then appeared, he ran over to me, helped me up, and gave me a friendly hug.
I hugged him back, feeling happy for not falling for this trap.
ãWhere were you?ä I asked him.
ãCalming the people at the other side, they were all scared to death.ä
ãDid you tell them what was going on thought?ä
ãIâm not that stupid.ä He said trying to look offended.
Chapter 10
Everyone back at the beach was trying to question us.
But for sure we had no comments.
ãWow, Iâm not sure how long it would take before I go completely insane.ä I said.
ãTell me about it.ä
ãYou see, I understand most of the stuff that happened, but what is with your wife?ä
ãYouâre asking me that? Believe me, that almost drove me mad.ä
We were trying to have a little conversation on our way to the hotel.
I was soaking wet, and Jason was totally exhausted.
Good thing Jason brought the car.
I breathed in, the exhaled loudly.
I was the one to drive; he wasnât in a perfectly good mood now.
I looked beside me; Jason seemed to be thinking deeply.
I didnât want to interrupt him.
He looked at me, with a huge grin on his face.
ãWhat is it this time?ä I asked.
I knew that whenever Jason had this grin, he had something on his mind.
ãI got it!ä he whispered; with the same silly grin on.
ãJason, are you okay?ä I thought that might have been a side effect of the new coffee he tried in the morning or something.
He then stood up, threw his arms in the air, and shouted, ãI got itä everyone looked at us.
The best way to shut him up was to pull him down and close the roof of the car.
I grabbed his arm, and pulled him down, trying to keep my eyes on the road.
ãJason shut up.ä
ãSorry.ä He said with a laugh.
ãIâm just too excited.ä
ãWhat is this crazy bright idea of yours?ä
ãItâs not an idea, itâs what I found out.ä
ãWhich would be·ä
ãWell, robots, chemical tubes, cameras, donât you find a connection?ä
ãTheyâre all related to science?ä I asked nonchalantly.
ãExactly.ä He hissed.
I looked at him as if he was crazy, parked the car, and we were on our way to our rooms.
Jason was still talking on the way.
ãNow, where would all that stuff be found?ä he asked, in the same excited (which was crazy to me) tone.
I shrugged.
ãIn a laboratory.ä
He was making a bit of a sense.
ãWhat about your wife?ä
ãLetâs just say, my wife was· brainwashed·.ä
ÎHow?ä
ãHow about a mixture of chemicals?ä
ãShe wouldnât fall for that.ä
ãNo, no, wait.ä
ãWhat?ä
I turned the doorknob; the room was locked.
But to my surprise, there was another note saying. ã How do you like this life? You were smart enough to catch the camera, but· not anymore.ä
Those notes are riving me insane.
ãYou know how Chuck met your wife with a bouquet of flowers? He did that to my wife too.ä
I raised an eyebrow; Jason didnât seem to notice, as he went on.
ãChuck wouldnât do such a thing, as you said before, so he was made to smell those flowers, and·ä
ãWhoa, whoa, whoa Jason, youâre going too far with those solutions, I think you should lie down.
ãNO!ä came his answer.
ãLook, Eddie, you have to listen; my wife, Mr. Richard, Chuck and your wife work all in the same place.ä
ãSo?ä
They all work in the same laboratory.
ãWhat? I thought they were detectives, and all that.ä
ãYeah, but they need chemicals and everything for tricking thieves.ä
ãOh well, they need something to trick them then.ä
Jason ignored me.
ãNow, they all were friends.ä
ãYeah.ä
ãBut some of them turned their backs on us.ä
ãUh-huh.ä
I was tired so I popped on the bed.
Jason sat beside me.
ãNow, that all started since you came back from Britain.ä
ãYeah.ä
ãAnd we both had a fake death after going to Montreal, right?ä
ãYeahä
ãNow, I just remembered that I was sent to Britain too in a death mission.ä
I sat up straight.
ãWas this mission about a little boy who committed suicide for some unknown reason, and he was called Eric.ä
ãYeah, exactly.ä
ãAnd you were sent by Mr. Simon?ä
ãYes, I was.ä
ãWait a second, so heâs behind all this.ä
ãYeah.ä
Chapter 11
ãBut how did he make them turn their backs on us?ä
ãI remember him having this dinner, he invited everyone, but our wives.ä
I got it.
ãNow on the dinner table were flowers, everyone smelled it, got brainwashed.ä
ãThe flowers had chemicals.â
ãWhich were brought from the laboratory.ä
ãWhere everyone worked.ä
ãOur wives couldnât go.ä
ãBut then, Chuck was sent to give them flowers.ä
ãBut, what explains your wife coming in?ä
ãShe stole the test tube, which I had in my pocket, she took while hugging me.ä
ãAnd the cameras were put to watch how far we are in understanding their plan.ä
ãNow youâre getting it.ä
ãOh, Iâm sorry I didnât care in the beginning.ä
ãItâs ok.ä
ãNow, letâs go find Simon.ä
ãSure, can I just get a nap first?"
ãButä
ãPlease.ä
ãOk.ä
We both lay down, and took a nap for 5 hours.
That was a long time, but we were so exhausted.
We woke up, but it was too late, it was 12:00 Am, we couldnât go out.
So we just decided to leave it till next day.
Chapter 12
In the morning we woke up, but avoided going down to the coffee place, we just asked the restaurant to bring the coffee upstairs.
ãDo you know where we can find this Simon guy?ä
ãNot exactly.ä
ãWell we have to find him before he goes too far.ä
ãWe will, donât worry.ä
ãHow?ä
ãSimple.ä
ãWhat?ä
ãIâll tell you somewhere else, we can never be sure weâre not watched.ä
ãWhere do you want to go then?ä
ãIn the· bathroom, no cameras would be there for sureä
We went there.
ãI was thinking of hanging a little bag of flour up the door, it would fall, softly on whoever comes in.ä
ãThat would be no use.ä
ãRemember that we are getting notes from some guy everyday.ä
ãOh I get it.ä
Who knew a guy like Jason, with a whole lot of less experience would be smarter than me.
ãYou know, I think itâs better if we donât go out tonight.ä I yawned.
ãYeah. Letâs chill.ä
I laughed.
Jason can be so childish sometimes.
Weâll then, letâs PAR-TAY.
Chapter 13
What a feeling, a full night of partying.
But it was 12:00 now, we set the alarm to 4:00, and went to bed, do the person can have his time dropping the note.
As we expected, we found a note, but with it the flour marks.
It was pretty cool, with no wind, so the flour didnât get blown off.
The note read ã pretty smart, huh? Donât wanna go down to the cafŽ, weâll catch you else where.ä
Oh yeah, I guess you wonât because weâll catch you first.
I stuffed he note in my pocket, and got two magnifying glasses to follow the prints.
The bag that fell on this guy wasnât too small, so it would complete at least half way, luckily we cam outside, and the flour was there in a line, that means the place is near by.
The prints stopped in front of a building.
It was huge, more like a business kinda thing, exactly what we expected.
We pushed the door to go in, when two men grabbed Jason and me.
ãToo smart, huh?ä grinned the first huge, all dressed in black guy.
ãPretty much like it. What are you exactly holding onto us for? Wait a sec. Are you guys what Iâm thinking?ä Said Jason, nonchalantly.
ãI guess we are.ä Said the first black man proudly.
ãThen go find some other people, we already have wives. We are straight.ä I shrugged.
The two men looked at me like I was crazy.
ãLook, our master is not stupid, we know that you guys have been following us.ä
ãSo what?ä
ãMaybe you would like to meet him.ä He said, getting fed up with us.
ãYeah, I guess so.ä We both replied at the same time.
They laid us up to this room, and man, was it ever big!
Chapter 14
He spun his chair to look at us,
It was him all right.
It was Simon.
ãHello boys.ä
ãHello Simon.ä We both greeted at the same time.
ÎHave a seat please.ä
We both sat, for some reason not feeling scared at all.
ãSo, you have been following us.ä He said, waving a ã shoo shooä wave at his boys.
They left.
Jason sprung from his seat.
ãWhy?ä he yelled.
ãWhy what?ä
ãWhy are you doing this?ä I explained, knowing he totally knew what Jason meant.
ãLook, I have been watching you all right, and I think its time you know the truth, but before that, I have to make sure that youâll die before you hear that story.ä He smiled, and got up.
Jason reached under the table, and pressed the police button, and in seconds, the sirens were wailing through the street.
ãThere, now all police know is that there is danger in hereä I grinned.
ãYeah, youâd better talkä Jason warned, putting a hand on his shoulder.
ãLook, I didnât do all that on purpose, it started out as a mistake.ä He stuttered.
ã Now youâre talking.ä
ãI sent you guys on trips, thinking you were a great detective, and I wanted to give you a break.ä
ãUh-huh.ä
ã So once I went to the lab to check if everything was okay, when Chuck showed me his latest creation. The flowers I made everyone smell.ä
Jason and me glanced at each other.
ãWe see.ä
ãBu what made you think of making us smell it?ä
ãWell, you Jason were on a long trip to Montreal, and Eddie came to me that day telling me a new achievement of his, I couldnât help myself but to feel jealous.ä
Chapter 15
The police voices and sirens were wailing outside.
But neither me, nor Jason cared, we were a step away from solving the whole thing.
ãSo, what happened next?ä
ãWell, I thought that people would never remember you guys if you were dead.ä
ãWell, we get that part, but how did you convince everyone with the death?ä
ãI just put it on newspaper, I knew you guys would be smart enough to keep hiding, in 2 months of no seeing, I was able to convince everyone.ä
ãToo bad we solved all this out.ä
ãHow did you guys find out?â
ãFrom Mr. Richardâs laugh.ä
ãWhat?ä
ãNever mind.ä
I glanced at Jason; he was looking at me weirdly, with his arms crossed in front of him.
ãMr. Richard had nothing to do with it.ä Said Simon, all confused.
ãB- But we heard him laugh, while this person was trying to shoot us.ä
ãThat wasnât Richard, it was me.ä
ãThen what in the world was he doing there?ä
ãI donât know, probably laughed about something else.ä
ãOh.ä
I put my head out the window trying to talk to the police, when s hand covered my mouth, and a voice hissed in my ears.
ãSay a word, and Iâll kill you.ä
What the? That was Jason.
I turned around and looked at Simon, he just shrugged and pointed to a vase full of flowers, Jason was sitting right beside them.
He hadnât said a word since he moved there.
Chapter 16
The police didnât seem to notice, as they were busy sending warning signs.
Theyâll break in soon· I hope.
But on a second thought, Jason would be in trouble.
The police would never believe this whole story.
They are all so straightforward; they take what the see, and they need no explanation.
I pushed Jason away from me and jumped.
Jason put the gun ö which I gave him before we entered the building- in my face.
ãConsider yourself dead if you do a single move.ä He hissed.
äI wasnât even considering moving away.ä
ãDonât panic; donât panicä Was all that filled my mind.
ãGood boy, now sit down in your chair, and donât move until we decide what to do.ä Grinned Mr. Simon.
Oh man, I donât know how I can ever go on, and do all this alone without Jason.
And I donât even know the solution to stop the flowers.
Was it temporary? Or a long-term kinda thing?
Jason and Simon were getting closer and closer to me.
Jason walked behind me and held me to make sure I ainât gonna move.
Simon phoned the whole brainwashed gang, then headed towards me with the bouquet of flowers in his hand.
When surprisingly Jason backed away quickly, and then fell on the ground, out cold, after pointing to my ears.
ãNo!ä cried Simon.
I kicked him outta my face, then touched my ears quickly.
I had nothing on them except my·earrings.
Of course, my earrings!
Chapter 17
They were made out of zinc!
The zinc must be the thing to stop the flowers.
Or at least stop them for a while.
Chuck burst into the room.
He looked at Jason, then Simon, then ran towards me.
By then, my earrings were in my hands, and they were the big, rounded ones.
He tried to hit me, but I just pushed him away, with my hands, I had the earring in them, and just like Jason did, he fell back wards, out cold.
My wife and Jasonâs wife both burst into the room together, and were stunned by the sight of Jason and Chuck lying numbly on the ground, and Simon in the corner, with a look of fear in his eyes.
But Simon seemed to take advantage of me turning to see the door, he jumped at the back of me, but I recognized him, and moved aside fast enough for him to run into the wall, and pass away.
I walked towards the two women, but Jasonâs wife just screamed,
My wife put her hands in front of her, looking scared, my face softened, but I knew my wife wouldnât just do that, she was known for always bringing up a fight, whenever she could.
She jumped on me and started punching my shoulder, but I just opened my hand and rested my palm on her shoulder, she fell of onto a chair nearby.
I walked over to Jasonâs wife, but out of the blue, Jason jumped in my face.
ãStop!ä he yelled in my face.
Oh no, that didnât work.
ÎWhat are you trying to do? Why is everyone sleeping? Why are you getting close to my wife? Why is she scared? Why do you have a trickle of blood down your mouth?ä he rushed all the questions in at the same time, then stopped to catch a breath.
ãLook, Iâll explain later, just let me-ã
ãNo, you are not touching my wife.ä
Oh god, how silly he gets sometimes!
ãFine then, you do it.ä
I opened my palm revealing the earrings, and handed them over to him ãtouch her with those.ä
ãWhat?ä
ãDo it!ä I yelled, but it was too late, she was already backing towards the door.
ãDonât let her go!ä
But he was already running towards the stairs.
He stood confused, but I grabbed his sleeve and ran downstairs.
The two dumb bodyguards stood there.
Chapter 18
She ran out there, screaming to the police.
We ran, trying to catch her.
ãExcuse me sir, what are you trying to do?ä
I looked up to see the police officer there.
ãDonât let her go!ä I yelled.
ãFollow me please.ä
I had no other choice but to do that, I kicked him and ran to Jasonâs wife.
I caught the screaming girl by the shoulders, making sure she couldnât move, while the police surrounded me and Jason, he walked up to her, and touched her with the earrings, she fell back.
ãDonât move.ä Yelled the police.
Just then, Chuck came out of the building, with the rest behind him, but he was holding Simon, making sure he wouldnât leave them.
ãNo, officer, this is the man you should take.ä He yelled over the top of the other noises.
ãWhat?ä the officer asked confused.
ãHe caused all that to happen.ä My wife explained, moving to my side, I gave her a big hug.
ãSorry for everything that we caused to you guys.ä Chuck apologized.
ãDonât mention it.ä I hugged him.
So did Jason.
By then his wife woke up.
ãLetâs all go to the police station.ä The officer said, clearing his throat, as her went over to his car, clutching Simonâs arm.
Chapter 19
ãWow, so you guys went through a lot.ä Said my wife in awe
ãI guess.ä
ãHow could they do that to us?ä Jasonâs wife wondered, serving the tea.
ãI donât care, I just care weâre all together, and Iâm finally home.ä Jason stretched on the sofa.
ãAnd we got our names back.ä I added.
ãWhere did you get those earrings anyway?ä asked Chuck, sipping his tea.
ãI picked them up in Montreal. I donât know why, but I like collecting stuff like earrings and all that.ä
Just then, the phone rang.
ÎHello?ä Jason spoke into the phone.
ãHi.ä
ÎOh hi officer.ä
ãWe just wanted to apologize for what happened during those 2 months.ä
ãNo problem, but we are having a little problem here.ä
ãWhat is it? Iâd sure be glad to help.ä
ãHow can we convince people that we are alive again?ä
ãWe are gonna make a public appearance, you guys have to be there, everything will be explained.ä
ãOk, thanks officer.ä
ãBye.ä
ãSee you.ä
**********
ãHurry up everybody, we are going to be late.ä Jason whined.
ãYeah,ä I agreed.
ãCalm down guys,ä my wife said.
ãWe havenât been to a club in 2 months.ä I explained.
ãSo, whoâs up for a party tonight?ä Chuck asked, opening the door.ä
ãMe.ä Yelled everybody happily at the same time.
->m Mr. Richardâs laugh.ä
