学校の終業式が終わって、カイトリン・プロワーはお友だちふたりと道を歩いていました。ふたりの名前はジェシカとベロニカです。家に着くと、電話がなっているのが聞こえてきました。カイトリンはリビングルームから自分の部屋まで走って、電話を取りました。お母さんです。

「学校はどうだった？今日は終業式だったでしょう？」と、お母さんがたずねました。
「うん、楽しかったよ」と、カイトリンは答えました。
「カイトリン、お母さんね、大切な用事ができて、お仕事で中国まで行かなくてはならないの。あと３０分でで出なくてはならないのよ」
「ジェシカとベロニカが、家にとまってもいい？」

「聞かなくてもいいわ。ジェシカのお母さんもいっしょに行くの。だから帰ってくるまで、ジェシカには家にとまってもらってちょうだい。お母さん、１ヵ月は帰れないから。それじゃあね、行ってきます。いい子でね」
「いってらっしゃい。気をつけてね」

電話を切ったとたんに、またベルがなりました。

「もしもし」
それは知らない人でした。

「今すぐ、家を出なさい。オクラホマから逃げてきた犯人が３人、あなたの家にかくれているんだ。さあ、早く！」
「そうね、信じるわ」と、カイトリンはわらいながら、いいました。
「けっこうだ。注意したことをわすれないように」

カイトリンたちはこわくなり、庭の木かげにかくれました。ジェシカが「今の電話のこと、けいさつにいいましょうよ」と、いいました。

そのとき、３人の男が来て、中に入っていきました。

カイトリンたちはそれを見ると、急いでけいさつを呼びました。おまわりさんは犯人をつかました。カイトリンたちはヴェロニカの家にとまることになりました。

n the last day of school Kaitlin Plower had two of her friends walk home with her. Their names were Jessica and Veronica. When they got in the house they heard the phone Kaitlin had to run all of the way from the livingroom to her room to get it(She had her own line). It was her mom.

"Hey honey what are you doing did you have a nice last day of school?"her mom said.
"Yeah I had a nice day of school"she answered.
"I just figured something out I have to go all the way to China for a big business trip. I have to leave in a half of an hour."
Can Jessica and Veronica stay?"

"I don't care you have to ask their mom's. I will be gone for a month. Jessica's mom works herre she has to go two we aare the only two she said Jessica is allowed to stay until we get back. Well I got to go love ya bye."

As soon as she hung up the phone rang again.
"Hello"
It wasn't a person it was an operator.
You had better get out of the house as soon as you can three escaped convicts that escaped from Oklahoma arre hiding out at your house."
"Yeah right and we believe that." she laughed.
"Fine but dont say I didn't warn you."
Hes starting to scare me lets go hide in the busheds and see if anyone comes if not we can call the police and tell them what he said."Jessica said.
"Sure enough three peeps came and wired the door to get in.
"As soon as they got in they ran and got the cops. The cops arrested them and they got fifty thousand dollars each. They stayed at Veronicas house the rest of the month.
