第１章：秋の終わり ある冷たい秋の日、わたしは妹のタニヤといっしょに、落ち葉を集めていました。たくさん集めた落ち葉の中に飛びこんで、遊ぼうと思っていたのです。そこへママがやってきました。最初に目に入ったのは、ママのバスケットボールのようにふくれた大きなおなかでした。パパがママの後ろにぴったりついて、みんなのためにレモネードを運んでいます。わたしはレモネードを見て、一休みすることにしました。 「女の子だったら、マンディという名前にしようと思うの」と、ママがいいました。パパとタニヤとわたしは、「ステキな名前」と、いいました。 わたしは「男の子だったら？」と、聞きました。「う～ん、そうだなぁ」と、パパが答えます。タニヤが「ジャーデンはどう？」といいました。わたしたちはみんな、「OK！」と賛成しました。 「ああ、早く赤ちゃんが生まれてこないかしら」と、わたしは心の中で思いました。赤ちゃんのことを話すたびに、わたしたちはみんな、心の中のハッピーな部分にふれている気持ちになります。少なくとも、わたしの中ではまさにそんな感じなのです。わたしはまた落ち葉を集め始めました。 「タニヤ、終わったわよ！」と、わたしはさけびました。タニヤが「今、行くわ！」と、さけび返します。 「１、２、３、、、」わたしたちは数を数えると、スタートのポーズを取りました。何かが葉っぱの中でガサガサ音を立てています。とつぜん、一匹のリスが飛び出してきました。わたしたちはびっくりして大声を上げると、パパの方へ走ってにげました。わたしとタニヤはもう２度と、葉っぱの中に飛びこむまいと決めました。 第２章：冬の終わり ママはもう何回もお医者さんに通っています。お医者さんは赤ちゃんが生まれるのは３月２５日ごろでしょうと、いいました。ママがそう教えてくれたのは、３月１５日のことでした。もう１０日くらいしかありません。いえ、それよりも短いかも。毎年、３月２０日には、わたしとタニヤでお花をつんで、パパとママにとどけます。赤ちゃんが家に来るころには、お花でいっぱいになっていることでしょう！きれいなお花をつまなくちゃ！３月２０日、わたしとタニヤはお外にお花をつみに、出かけました。パパとママはソファにすわって、赤ちゃんのための新しい計画を話しています。その時、ママのうめき声が聞こえてきました。 第３章：新しい命 パパは家の中から飛び出してきて、さけびました。「車に乗って！赤ちゃんが生まれるよ！」わたしとタニヤは車に向かって、走り出しました。病院に着くと、ママはすぐにぶんぺん室に連れていかれました。 「あら、やだ。お花を持ってきちゃった」と、わたしはタニヤにいいました。「大丈夫。ママにあげましょうよ！」と、タニヤはいいました。 「ううん、それよりも良いアイデアがあるわ！」と、わたしは答えました。 ５時間がたちました。 「パパといっしょにおいで！」と、パパがお部屋に飛んでいきながら、いいました。 「赤ちゃんが生まれたの？」と、わたし。 「生まれた、生まれた！女の子だよ！」 第４章 お部屋に入ると、わたしは息をのみました。そして赤ちゃんに、手に持っていたらっぱ水仙をあげました。赤ちゃんにあげようと、ずっとにぎっていたお花です。わたしは赤ちゃんをうでにだきながら、「わたしの妹。これからずっといっしょなの。あなたはわたしの大切な、大切な妹よ」と、いいました。赤ちゃんはわたしのらっぱ水仙です！ |
CHAPTER 1: LATE FALL
One cool fall day I was raking a pile of leaves up for my sister Tanya and I. We were planning to jump in it. My mother came out on to the porch. At first all I could see was her big basketball belly. My father, tracking behind her, brought out lemonade for everyone. I definitely took a break after I saw this.
"For a girl we could name her Mandy", Mom suggested. I like it, Dad, Tanya and I responded.
"What if it's a boy?" I asked."I don't know", Dad responded. "How about Jaden?" Tanya asked. "OK!" we all agreed.
I can't wait until the baby is born, I thought to myself. Every time we talk about the baby, I think we all get in touch with happiness inside. At least I know that I do. I went back to raking the leaves for Tanya and I.
"It's done Tanya", I yelled. "Coming Yolanda", Tanya yelled back.
"1, 2, 3, we started to count and then paused. Something was rustling in the leaves. Then all of a sudden a squirrel jumped out at us. We both screamed and ran to our Dad. We decided not to jump in the leaves.
CHAPTER 2: LATE WINTER
Mom had been having lots of doctor's appointments. The doctor said the baby might be born on March 25. It was March 15th when Mom told us the news. Just 10 days or more, maybe even less.ﾊﾊEvery March 20th Tanya and I pick flowers for Mom and Dad. When the baby comes home, there will be flowers!ﾊ I have to pick perfect flowers, I thought. On March 20th Tanya and I went outside to pick flowers. Mom and Dad were on the couch making new plans for the baby when I heard Mom begin to moan.
CHAPTER 3: SOMETHING NEW
Dad ran out of the house yelling, "Get into the car, Mom is going to have the baby!" Tanya and I ran to the car. When we got to the hospital, Mom was rushed to the delivery room.
"Oh no, I brought a flower with me", I told Tanya "It's ok, give it to Mom!" Tanya responded.
"No, I've got a better idea!" I responded.
Five hours later.
"Come with me, Come with me!" Dad whipped into the room yelling this.
"Is the baby here?" I asked.
"Yes, and it is a girl!" Dad responded.
Chapter 4: A Change
When I got to the room, my heart stopped. I gave the baby the Daffodil. This is what I thought as I held her in my arms, "This is my little sister. This is the little sister that I am going to spend the rest of my life with. She must be really special! "
She is my Daffodil!
