「ママ、もうすぐ用意できるわ」とわたしは学校の制服を着ながら、いいました。「学校に行くのに、どうしてこんなに時間がかかるの」ですって？それは今日が、新しい学校へ行く最初の日だからです。パパとママと双子の妹のアレキサンドラとわたしは、フロリダのマイアミに引っ越してきました。パパが転勤になったからです。パパがこのままニューヨークにいたら、仕事がなくなって、わたしたちみんな、困ったことになるでしょう。ええと、何か忘れたことはないかしら？ああ、そうそう、、

わたしはマリア。１２才の女の子です。マイアミの私立学校に双子の妹のアレキサンドラと通うことになっています。両親はドミニカ共和国生まれで、とても若い時にニューヨークに来たそうです。

くつをはき終わると、わたしは階段を降りながら、心配で思わず身ぶるいしました。わたしはこれまで私立学校へ行ったことがありません。階段を降りると、ママが「何か食べる？」と、妹とわたしに聞きました。「ううん、いらない」と、わたしたちは同時に答えました。

パパが学校へ連れていってくれる間も、わたしは何か失敗したらどうしようと、ビクビクしていました。だって、私立学校の子ときたら、親切だけど（たいくつでね）、ユーモアのセンスなんてこれっぽちもなさそうに見えるでしょう？だから車から降りて、事務所に行く途中で、女の人たちが笑ったり、冗談をいったり、わたしたちに「マイアミにようこそ！」とあいさつするのを見て、おかしな気持ちになりました。とってもふしぎ！

女の人がわたしたちを教室に連れていってくれました。教室ではたくさんの子どもたちが静かに算数の勉強をしています。妹とわたしを見つめるみんなの視線を感じて、わたしはまた不安になりました。横を向くと、アレキサンドラも同じように心配そうな顔をしています。けれども先生が行ってしまうと、みんながわたしたちに話しかけてきて、自己紹介を始めました。

ここでお話を簡単にするために、ちょっと省略させてね。わたしたちがランチに行くと、女の子たちがみんなアレキサンドラとわたしに声をかけてくれました。みんなとても親切で、良い感じです。放課後になると、クラスの女の子たちがみんな、電話番号を聞いてきました。わたしはもちろん、喜んでみんなに電話番号を教えました。そう、私立学校って、全然悪くないわよ！！

'm almost ready, Mom", I said when I was putting my uniform on for school. You see, the reason why I was taking such a long time is beause that day was the first day I was going to my new school. My mom, dad, and my twin sister Alexandra all moved to Miami, Florida because my father had to move there for his business. If he didn't leave New York, he will lose his job and we will end up in the street. Did I forget something? Oh yeah...

My name is Mariah and I am a 12 year old girl who is going to attend a private school in Miami with my twin sister Alexandra. My parents were born in Dominican Republic and they came to live in New York when they were every young.

When I finished putting my shoes I went down the stairs shaking with nervousness, I have never been to a private school in my who entire life! "Want something to eat?" my mom asked my sister and I when we came down the stairs, "no thanks", we said at the same time.

When our dad took us to the private school I was terrified that I would do something wrong. You know how those private school kids are, nice( in a boring way) and not acting like they don't have a sense of humor. Its the strangest thing, when we came out of the car and went to the office there were ladies lauphing and making jokes and greeting us, " Welcome to Miami Day!" I felt like it was a miracle!

The lady took us to our classes and we saw lots of kids sitting down doing math but quietly. I felt nervous again when I saw those kids looking at me and my sister. I turned around and I saw that Alexandra was just as nervous. But suddenly when the teacher left there was everybody talking to us and introducing them selves.

Let me skip some themes so I can make this story shoter. Well we went to luch and all the girls came to Alexandra and I talking to us, I have to say I loved that! They were so nice! Then after school sinced we have to walk home every girl from our class ask for our nimbers and what can I do, I gave it to them! I have to say, private school isn't so bad after all!
