変にニコニコしているホテルのフロントを見て、わたしはちょっぴりこわくなりました。なぜって、この男の人以外、ほかにはだあれもいないのです。８階だてのホテルに、この人だけ。うまくいえないけけれど、なんだかいやな予感がしてきました。

パパとママはホテルを出て、スーパーマーケットにお買い物に行ってしまいました。わたしは階段をのぼって、やっと一番上の階につきました。その間にも、だれにも会いません。これは、ぜったいにおかしいわ。わたしはとうとう、X71部屋のドアの前に立ちました。８階の左の一番はしっこの部屋です。あたりはシ〜ンとしています。もうすぐパパとママがスーパーマーケットから帰ってくるはず。そうしたらこんな変な感じはなくなるわ。わたしはドアにカードキーをさしこんで、部屋のドアをゆっくりと開けました。「なんておかしなお休みなんでしょう。わたしのおたんじょう日は春休みだし、こんな変なホテルに。。。」と、わたしはドアを開けながら、つぶやきました。

「サプライズ！！」お部屋の中は家族とお友だちでいっぱいになっていました。「ハッピーバースデー！リリアン！」なんて、ステキなおたんじょう日でしょう！

The over-cheery desk service man was a bit scary as I relized that only he was working at that point in time. No one else was in the entire 8 story building. I didn't know how I could tell but I just knew that something was up.

My parents had gone out of the hotel for a minute to go to the super market for some items that father had most like him forgotten. I climbed the many stair wells to reach the top story not passing one human life form on the way. It was most odd and I just couldn't understand it. Finally after several taxing minutes I reached the door to Room X71 the last door on the left story 8. It was dreadfully quite and I didn't know why it was so eery. Soon mom and dad would be back with from the super market and I wouldn't feel so out of place. I slowly turned the door to the room after I slid the hotel room card through the slot." What a fun way to spend a holiday, the one week my birthday falls on a spring break and I am stuck in this dump..." I mummbled as I opened the door.

"SURPRISE!!!" the entire room was filled with my friends and family. "Happy Birthday, Lillian!" What a birthday surprise.
