"How Mammoths became Extinct"

ver 12,000 years ago in North America, the Yukon of all places, mammoths ruled the earth. The King Mammoth, Johnathan, was sure since the Mammoths were bigger they were better. That wasn't so, the Mammoths had a weakness, they were that wise or smart. One of the animals they harassed was the shrew. Although this was going on for many generations of shrews, no shrew was brave enough to face the mighty beast. For they knew that they would pay the ultimate price, death.

Then two brothers were sick and tired of it all. The brothers were Josh and Eric. Josh was smart and Wise, and Eric was a leader (he was also fast, for a shrew). They were a very good team, with Josh's ideas, and Eric's strength. Although they were confident, they were aware of the risks.

One day the brothers gathered up an army of restless shrews. They build a wall of twigs and sticks around the shrew colony. The next day the Mammoths strolled up to the wall. The king shouted out

"What do you think you're doing?"
"We are doing what we want," replied the brothers.
"Okay, then." The king grunted. The Mammoths moved the sticks with their huge and powerful tusk.

"I knew it wouldn't work!" Eric said, but the next day the shrews built another wall, this time of dirt. So it would be stronger. The mammoths plowed it again, not even wasting their time yelling at the shrews.

"It didn't work againÖMan!"
"Don't worry about it, I got another plan."
"Oh great," yelled Eric. "Just what I need, another stupid plan. Another wall I assume."
"Nope," Josh replied, with a sly smile.

At this time the mammoths were becoming angry, because of all the walls. They can waste their time with the shrews when they are hungry, and need to feed on grass. So they planned to kill all of the cute and cuddly shrews. So the next day the angry Mammoths chased the shrews out of the Yukon. They also killed some by jabbing their tusks though the small, thin hide of the shrew. Many shrews died, but for the ones who didn't, they had hope. It was a vicious battle.

"When is your plan going to kick in," said Eric, like a true leader.
Josh told him the idea.
"I'll have an army of about 200 shrews, and you'll have an army of about 500 shrews. I will take my army to slow down the Mammoths and you will order you're army to build a hole, down south (in present day Arizona)."
All this time Eric was impressed. "Nice plan Bro!"

So Josh slowed them down by having rows of shrews kick sand up at the Mammoths, while Eric was running his army of troops to Arizona. When the Mammoths sprinted towards them the shrews would dig underground, to hide.
When Eric and his army got to Arizona, they caught and ate some fish. They were exhausted. Then they started digging the huge hole. When they finally finished, they had to cover it with grass and twigs. When they where done they dug smaller holes, and waited. Eric ran up to the Yukon to tell Josh they were done.

When Eric told Josh. Josh gathered his shrews and ran to Arizona, being careful not to let the Mammoths out of sight. So they ran slower so the mammoths could catch up, but they wouldn't run to slow because they knew very the tusks of a Mammoths could easily puncture. Josh and Eric stayed together, while the other shrews went ahead to seek shelter for the expected, short battle. As they got closer and closer to Arizona, they became tense. When the got there they're, plan kicked into action.

The brothers were a few meters away from the pit, might the mammoths hot on their heels. They told each other "Good luck!" Then the sprinted over the pit because they knew the weight over the mammoths would surly make the pit collapse. The herd of Mammoths was now on top of the camouflaged pit, it was shaking. Eric was a little further than Josh.

Then suddenly Josh tripped. He tried to get up, but he was stuck. The rumble was like a thunderstorm. Eric wouldn't leave his brother behind. He had to make a split second decision. He ran to pick up Josh, while Josh was yelling,

"Go back, save yourself!" Eric picked him up Josh off his hind legs and he ran as hard as he could, but sadly, it wasn't enough. It collapsed. All the while the shrew colony was watching, in horror.

All that went though the brothers minds was "We won the war, we won the war!"

Dirt rose up like ghost. It was silent. They were dead. Every shrew started crying, and telling each other that Josh and Eric were heroes. They sacrificed their lives, they would tell each other. Suddenly, a flashed came from the hole, the heavens were opening. The light picked the brothers up, motionless. And dropped them on the ground. All the Mammoths disappeared.
Then Eric raised an arm "Are we in heaven?"

"Nope Brother, we're alive," said Josh.
"But how," asked Eric.
"Heavens gave us another chance," replied Josh.
They were alive "Hip, hip hooray!" shouted the other shrews.
"Just great Josh, always messing up thing!" Eric said.

It was a mystery, where did the Mammoths go. And from that day forward they shrew birthdays were decelerated as holidays. Every holiday, they shrew colony would retell the story, of the brave brothers. But to this day the secret of the mammoths, was never solved. Although there were many theories, it was an eternal mystery.
