昔、中国のある小さな村に、若いお姫様がいました。お姫様の両親はお姫様に「今年中に王子様を見つけなさい。さもないと、私たちが決めてしまいますよ」と、いいました。両親はそうして大勢のすてきな若者を連れてきましたが、お姫様はどの人も気に入りません。
「わたしは姿形では、結婚しません。それに私の条件が気に入って、結婚するような人はごめんです」と、いいました。
それは真実でした。お姫様はたいへん美しく、若者たちはお姫様の美ぼうとたくさんのお金、そしてプリンセスという地位のために、結婚したいと考えていました。
ある夜、お姫様はお城をにげ出すと、まっくらな森に走っていきました。お姫様は身分の高い生まれですから、これまで森の中を歩いたことは、ほとんどありません。お姫様は森の中をどんどん走って、とうとう洞穴まで来ました。そしてまったく恐れずに、洞穴の中に入っていきました。それから冷たいかべにもたれてすわると、泣きながら、うとうとと眠りました。
「こんにちは」小さな声が、お姫様の耳元でささやきました。
目を開けると、４匹の小さなドラゴンが立っています。
「あなたはだあれ？」と、お姫様はドラゴンに聞きました。
「ぼくたちは４匹のドラゴン守です。名前はスザク、ビャク、ゲンブ、ショーブ。ここはぼくたちの家なんです」
「それはごめんなさい。わたしはニヌ姫です」と、お姫様はいいました。
「ええ、知っています。ぼくたちはあなたを助けに来たのです」と、一匹のドラゴンがいい、お姫様に小さな茶色のふくろを手渡しました。
「これななあに？」
「これからお城にもどって、お城の外にある井戸のこのふくろを投げ込んでください。それから村の若者をみんな、祭に招くんです。水はふくろを入れた井戸の水を使ってください。明日の夜になれば、お姫様の結婚の悩みは、すべて消えてしまいますよ」
お姫様はお城へ帰ると、ドラゴンたちのいったようにしました。茶色のふくろを開けると、井戸にふくろの粉を全部入れて、お祭りを開くから、若者たちはみんな来るように、といいました。
次の日、お姫様は散歩に出かけました。すると村の女性たちが走りよってきて、お姫様に「主人が私の顔の見分けがつかなくなってしまいました」と、いいました。お姫様は笑って、村の人々の前で話をしました。
「昨夜、わたしはお祭りに男に人たちを呼びました。そして飲み物の中に、まほうの粉を入れたのです。これで若者たちは、若い女性の顔を見ても、全ておばあさんの顔に見えるようになりました。あなたがたが、わたしのことを見た目や地位でなく、わたし自身を愛してくれると証明することができるまで、この呪いはとけることはないでしょう。」
数ヵ月後、お姫様はひとりの若者を見つけました。若者はお姫様自身を愛することを学んだのです。呪いはとけ、若者たちは前のように若い女性の顔を見ることができるようになりました。これからもだれかにまほうをかけたくなったら、お姫様はまた４匹のドラゴン守のいる、あの洞穴にもどることでしょう。
here once was a young chinese princess who lived in a small village in China. Her parents told the princess that she must find a husband before the end of the year or they will pick a husband for her. her parents would bring in thousands of good looking young men to ask her for her hand in marrage. But she said no to everyone of them.
"I will not marry a man for his looks",she would say. "And I do not want a man to marry me for mine."
It was true. She was very beautiful and she knew that the young men who asked her for her hand in marrage only wanted to marry her becuase of her beauty and becuase she was the princess and had tons of money.
One night, the princess ran away from her palace and ran into the dark woods. She didn't know these forest well becuase she never had the time to explore. after all, she was a part of a royal family. The young girl ran through the woods untill she came to a cave. With no fear at all she steped inside. She sat againts one of it's cold walls and cried herself to sleep.
"Hello?", A weak voice whisperd into the princess's ear.
She opened her eyes and standing right there were four small dragons."Who are you?", she asked them.
"We are the four gardian dragons of the earth. Suzaku, Byaku, Genbu and Shobu. This is our home."
"I'm very sorry. I am princess Ninu", the princess said.
"We know. And we are here to help you", one of the four dragons told her. He passed her a small brown bag.
"What is this?"
"We want you to return home and put this into the well out side of the palace. Then, we want you to invite all the young men in the village to come over for a feast. Use the water from the well. We are sure that by tommorrow night all of your worries about marrage will be gone."
The princess agreed and did what they said. She opened the bag and bumped all of the powder inside of it into the well. then she told all t he young men that she was going to have a feast and invited all of them to come.
The next day the princess went for a walk. As she did, all of the females of the village ran up to her and told her that there husands did not reconize there faces. The princess just laughed. She made a speech in front of the whole town.
"Last night I invited all of the men from my village to a feast for no reason at all. Just before I did, I put some magic posion into there drinks. Now, whenever they see a young women they will only see an old lady's face staring back at them. Untill you can prove to me that you can love me for who I am and not what I look like, this curse will stay."
A few months later she found a young man who learned to love her for who she was and not what she looked liked. The spell was broken and all of the men were free from the curse. She knows that if she needs to put another spell on them she can return to the cave of the four gardian dragons.
