「マーケノッド、ヨーディ、クラックスタ、ロニス、ウエルノ、オポノ、パーピー、それからロッカロイド、わたしはぜったいにねないから」と、クリッピーがいいました。

つぎのあさ、クリッピーはおき出すと、こっそりと、クドーとガーティのいるかごに行きました。「ねえ、へんなヤツが来て、あなたたちのこと、たべちゃうわよ」と、クリッピーはいいました。「だいじょうぶ」と、クドー。「へいきだったら」と、ガーティー。

「ねえ！ターキー、ニコ、わたしね、すごくするどいアゴをもったかいぶつを見たの？見たことある？」と、クリッピーはたずねました。「しってるよ。それはかいぶつじゃないよ。それはカブト虫じゃないか！」と、ニコがいいました。「カブト虫！？」「そうさ。あれはぜったいにカブト虫だよ」と、ニコがまたいいました。「ほんとうかどうか、見てくるわ。ごきげんよう」と、クリッピーはいいました。

お外はお日さまがてって、とてもさわやか。クリッピーはドアをあけると、外に出ました。クリッピーは「かいぶつ」を見つけました。「ニコは正しいみたい。やっぱりあれはカブト虫だわ」
