ある日、小さなてんとう虫が、はっぱの上にすわっていました。そこへふきげんなてんとう虫が通りかかって、いいました。「このはっぱはわたしのものよ。ぜんぶわたしのなんだから」やさしいてんとう虫は「いっしょに食べましょうよ」と、いいました。「いいえ！だめ。べつのお友だちをさがしてくるわ」そういうと、ふきげんなてんとう虫は、空へとんでいきました。
ふきげんなてんとう虫は、草や木の上をとびまわりました。そしてミツバチを見つけると、「ハイ！ミツバチさん。お友だちにならない？」と、いいました。「君がどうしてもっていうのなら」と、ミツバチは大きなハリを見せながらいいました。ふきげんなてんとう虫はそれを見て「あら、ぜんぜん大きくないわ」と、いいました。
つぎにふきげんなてんとう虫は、ほらあなに入っていきました。そこにはカブト虫がいました。「ハイ！カブト虫さん、お友だちになりましょうよ」と、いいました。「君がそういうなら」と、カブト虫は大きなツメを見せながら答えました。ふきげんなてんとう虫はそれを見て「あら、そんなにりっぱじゃないのね」と、いいました。
ふきげんなてんとう虫はねったいの森までとんでいって、ゴリラを見つけました。ふきげんなてんとう虫は「ハイ！ゴリラさん、お友だちにならない？」と、聞きました。大きなゴリラは「そうだね」と、大きな手を見せながらいいました。ふきげんなてんとう虫は「あなたもダメだわ、ゴリラさん」と、いいました。
ふきげんなてんとう虫は森を出て、とおい東の海へ行きました。そこではクジラがいました。ふきげんなてんとう虫はクジラに「ねえ！クジラさん、お友だちになりましょう」と、声をかけました。クジラはせなかから水をふきだしながら、「しかたないなぁ」と、いいました。ところがクジラから出る水で、ふきげんなてんとう虫はあっという間に、地球を１周するほど、とおくへとばされてしまいました。
ふきげんなてんとう虫は、はっぱの上にドスン！と、おちました。やさしいてんとう虫に会った、あのはっぱです。やさしいてんとう虫は「お友だちは見つかった？」と、聞きました。ふきげんなてんとう虫は「いいえ、でもたくさん空をとんだから、おなかがペコペコよ」と、いいました。やさしいてんとう虫は「あなたのために、はっぱをのこしておいたの」と、いいました。ふきげんなてんとう虫は「ありがとう」と、答えました。そして「わたしにはもうこんなにステキなお友だちがいて、わたしのことをまっていてくれたのに、ぜんぜん気がつかなかったのね」と、いいました。
ne day a little ladybug was sitting on a leaf. A grouchy ladybug came by. The grouchy ladybug said, "this food is mine, all mine". The friendly ladybug said, "let's share". "No!, I will find me another friend, said "the grouchy ladybug as she flew away.
The grouchy ladybug went through the grass and over a tree, just then she saw a bee. "Hey bee, Do you want to be my friend?" "If you insist", said the bee, showing his big stinger. "Oh, you are not big enough", said the grouchy ladybug.
The grouchy ladybug then went into a cave, where she saw a beetle. "Hey Bettle, want to be my friend?" "If you insist", said the beetle, showing his large claws. "Oh, you are not big enough", said the grouchy ladybug.
She flew far away to the rainforest where she found a gorilla. The grouchy ladybug said, "Hey gorilla, will you be my friend?". "If you insist", said the large gorilla, showing his giant hands. The grouchy ladybug said, "you are not big enough gorilla".
The grouchy ladybug left the rainforest and went to the farthest ocean, there she saw a whale in the water and asked him, "Hey whale, do you want to be my friend?" The whale spurted, "if you insist!" When the water came out of the whale's spout it sent the grouchy ladybug flying across the world.
The ladybug landed hard on the leaf where she met the friendly ladybug. The friendly ladybug asked, "Did you have any luck finding a friend?" "No, said the grouchy ladybug, "But I am hungry from all my travel". The friendly ladybug said, "I saved you some food". "Thank you", said the grouchy ladybug, "I guess I had a big friend waiting here for me all the time and didn't know it".
