"The Stamp Contest"
by

Iwas at the post office waiting to buy some stamps when it happened.

"Next in line", the short chubby lady at the counter said.

I had been daydreaming about being a famous artist. I had not noticed that I was next in line. Then I saw it. This was my chance. There was a green poster hanging on the wall. It said there was a contest to design a stamp. The winning idea would be made into a real stamp and sold worldwide. Then I remembered I was not good at art. What could I make? I bought my stamps and was walking home thinking about the contest.

When I got home, I told my mother about the contest. She said that I should make something simple and nice. She suggested that I make a bowl of fruit, but I thought that would be boring. I decided to go on to my father, the computer freak of the family. Of course, he said to make a computer. I did not like that idea either.

Now I went to my sister, who was studying the Civil War. She said to make a picture of something important from history. That was not my kind of thing either. Then I got it. I would not do anything; it would be a blank stamp that you design yourself.

A few weeks later, after I had sent in my blank stamp idea, I got something in the mail. What do you think it said? You got it, I had won. I got so excited that I kissed everyone in the family including the dog, and then ran around my block yelling, "I won, I won."

The End
