マッドマン先生が「金曜日はペットの日です」と発表すると、クラス中がおなかをすかせた赤ちゃん鳥のようににぎやかになりました。それから急にシーンとしずかになりました。マッドマン先生のうれしそうな顔に注目が集まります。
木曜日、わたしたちはペットの日に何のペットを持ってこようか、話し合ってました。リーンという子は「ゾウを持ってくる」と、いいました。リーンはペットのゾウがどんなに美しいか、じまんを始めました（ルーシーというステキな名前と、お日様のようなきれいで長いブロンドのかみ、なんですって！）。ゾウはダンスが得意ですが、それはそれはすごいさわぎになるのです。ジョーダンは「コブラを連れてくる」と、いいました。コブラの名前はスリミーです。スリミーの特技は、学校の大人をみんな、飲みこんでしまうことでした。１番ひどかったのは、ミッキーです。ミッキーは「オオカミを連れてくる」と、いいました。オオカミは風のようにほえるのだそうです。クラスのみんなはおどろいて、息ができないほどでした。
そこへジョーダンが文句をいい始めました。オオカミがコブラをあっという間に食べてしまうにちがいない、というのです。そのうち算数のクラスが始まって、またマッドマン先生に注意が集まりました。
マッドマン先生は、算数のかわりにペットの日についてお話しましょうと、いいました。クラスはまたペチャクチャとおしゃべりを始めましたが、すぐにしずかになりました。マッドマン先生がじっと見つめたからです。マッドマン先生は、ペットの日のためのお約束を決めました。
ペットの日のお約束
１）ペットはきちんとオリに入れて、外に出さないこと
２）ペットのための食べ物を持ってくること
３）お父さんとお母さんに、ペットを１時に学校に持ってくるように伝えること。そうすればふつうの授業もできますね
４）ペットの日でも、学校にいるということをわすれないように
５）走ってはいけません
６）ペットはかならず近くにおいておくこと
６）ペットの日でも宿題をわすれてはいけませんさあ、ペットの日はこれで台なしになってしまいました。だって子どもたちはみんな、おもしろいことをしようと、楽しみにしていたのです。それに宿題や授業もなくなるかもしれないと、思ってもいました。これでペットの日のお楽しみはありません。
hen Mrs. Madman announced that Friday would be Pet Day, the class stared to chirp like hungry baby birds. All of a sudden the class was silent. The focus was set on Mrs. Madman who looked quite pleased.
On Thursday day everyone was discussing what pet they would bring in for Pet Day. One kid, named Leanne said she was going to bring in her pet elephant. Then she started bragging about how beautiful her elephant was. (With a beautiful name, Lucy and beautiful long blonde hair like the sun.) Her specialty was dancing which made a huge racket. Jordan Said he was going to bring in his pet cobra named, slimy. Slimy's specialty was to choke all the adults on school campus. And then worst of all, Mickey said she was going to bring in her pet wolf, which could howl like the wind. The shocked class was so shocked that they couldn稚 breath.
Then Jordan started to complain, saying that the wolf would eat up his cobra in a second. When it was time to start math the focus was once again on Mrs. Madman.
Then Mrs. Madman said that instead of math they were going to talk about Pet Day. The class started to chatter again but ended in a minute when Mrs. Madman gave them the look. She said some rules were to be obeyed the next day.
Pet Day Rules
1. Have your pet in control for instance, on a leach or in a cage.
2. Bring food for your pets.
3. Tell your parents to bring your pet to school at 1:00 so we can still have normal class time.
4. Just because it is Pet Day does not mean you are not in school.
5. There is still the rule of no running.
6. Keep your pet near you at all times.
7. Have all your homework ready because PET DAY IS NOT AN EXCUSE!Now Pet Day was ruined. The kids had expected to have fun with no rules to avoid a disaster. They also thought could be an excuse. Now they would have no fun on pet day.
