「フ〜！」アレックサは思わず、大きなためいきをつきました。
「ほんと、わかるわ」親友のアイシャが答えます。
「算数って、大きらいよ」と、アレックサ。
「ね〜」と、ふたりは同時にうなずきました。
「人生って、らくじゃないわ」と、アイシャがふざけていいました。
「お家に帰ろう」と、アレックサがいいました。アレックサは１０才にしては背がひくく、長い赤毛にキラキラ光るグリーンの目をしています。アイーシャは反対に背が高くて、あさ黒く、かみの毛を細かいみつあみにしていました。２人がアレックサの家につくと、かべに画びょうでとめておいた星の図がありません。
「パパ！」ト、アレックサが大声を出しました。「家に仕事を持ちかえらないでよ！」
アレックサはためいきをつきました。アレックサのパパはNASAの一員で、仕事にむちゅうです。家でも仕事の話ばっかり。ママのキャリー、子どもたちである１３才のニコル、１１才のマルコ、１０才のアレックサ、７才のジェニー、１才のジャソン、みんなはうんざりしていました（ジャソンは気にしていませんでしたけれどね）。パパの仕事の道具はみんな、さっさとあのNASAのビルにうつしてもらいたいものです。
「ハニー、でもこれは仕事のためなんだよ」と、パパがいいました。
「NASAに持ってかえっててば！見てたら、いやになっちゃうの！」と、アレックサはさけびました。
「これが必要なんだ！」パパもさけびかえします。
「なんで？！」
「大切な研究のためさ」
「仕事場においておけばいいじゃない！」
「こんなことをいうのは、気がすすまないけれどな、ちょうど１週間後に大きな物体が地球にぶつかることになっているんだ。どの星ににげるべきか、しらべなくてはならないんだよ」
「ふ〜ん、信じるわよ」と、アレックサはつまらなさそうにいいました。
「本当なんだぞ」
その時、ママのキャリーが入ってきました。
「いったいどうしたの？ジャソンをおこしてしまったじゃない」と、ママがいいました。
「わるかったね。キャリー。UFOがもうすぐ地球にぶつかるんだ。それで仕事の道具を家に持ってきたら、アレックサがおこったんだよ」
「あらそうなの？」と、キャリーがたずねました。
「レバノンさん、本当なのよ」と、アイーシャが口をはさみました。
「さあ、ジョナサン、もう一回せつめいして」と、ママがほほえみながら、いいました。
「本当なんだ。２、３日したら、全員、火星ににげるのさ」と、パパがいいました。
「わかったわ」と、ママが答えました。
「さあみんな！荷物をまとめるのよ！」
hew!" said Alexa.
"Yeah." said her best friend, Aisha.
"After all that math I'll die." said Alexa.
"No kidding." said Aisha.
"Uh." they both said in unison.
"Life is rough." kidded Aisha.
"Lets go." said Alexa.Alexa was short for ten, with longish red hair and bright green eyes. Aisha was tall, black, and wore her hair in tons of tiny braids. When they got to Alexa's house a star chart that hadn't been there before was thumbtacked to the wall.
"Dad!!!" called Alexa, "Don't bring your job home!"
She sighed. Alexa's father was part of NASA and crazy about it. He kept taking job buisness, home to his wife, Karie, and kids, Nicole aged 13, Marco 11, Alexa 10, Jenny 7, and Jasson 1.
They were sick of all the buisness items(except Jason who didn't care at all) and wanted him to bring his stuff back to the NASA building."Its for buisness, honey." called Alexa's dad.
"Take it back! Iam sick of looking at your stuff!" yelled Alexa.
"I need it!" he called back.
"Why!" asked Alexa.
"Its for a very important study."
"Leave it at work!"
"I hate to tell you this, but a large object is hitting Earth in exactly a week. We need to figure out what planet we should escape to."
"Yeah, like I'm going to believe that." Alexa said flatly.
"Its true."
Then suddenly Alexa's mother, Karie walked in:
"Whats going on? You've woken little Jasson."
"Sorry, Karie. Its just a UFO is going to hit Earth and when I brought my supplies here, little Alexa got mad."
"Oh yes?" asked Karie.
"Its true Mrs. Lebanon." Aisha put in.
"So Jonathan, up to it again?" asked Karie, smiling.
"Its true. We'll escape to Mars in a few days." Jonathan (Alexa's dad) said.
"Alright." said Karie.
"LETS PACK!"
