nce upon a time there was a little girl named Mikalea who didn't have much money. She lived in a small house with a big family and-prepare yourself for this- NO T.V.! One day Mikalea was walking through the woods to pick berries for supper. Suddenly the path she was walking down split in to two separate pathes. Down one path there was a big sack of money, and down the other path, there was a racoon with an injured paw. You know how much Mikalea was longing for that money, but without hesitation, she walked right down to that racoon.
"Oh, you poor little thing," she said, pulling a thorn out of the racoon's small paw. The racoon wandered off into the bushes, and the sack of money disapeared. A musty smell filled the air and an old woman appeared.
"You have shown your kindness, Mikalea," she softly said, "Now, young one, you will recieve a reward if you continue." The woman faded away.
" I wonder what she meant by that?" Mikalea thought aloud, but she was soon to find out.
The next day Mikalea was sent to town to sell some vegetables from the garden. When she got there, she met an old man who said "Oh, dear child plese can you give me one of your lovely tomatoes, I am so hungry, and I have no money." Mikalea saw how poor the old man looked and handed him a juicy red tomato. "Bless you sweetheart." The man smiled, showing yellow teeth.
The old woman appeared again, and said "You deserve a reward". She handed Mikalea a small porcelain unicorn figure, only five inches tall. "Thank you so much.." Mikalea began to say, only to notice the woman had disapeared again. Mikalea sighed. "I wonder what this is for." As she sold her vegetables, she said to herself. "I wish I was home right now, and that we had lots of money, so we wouldn't have to sell our vegetables." Suddenly, Mikalea was in front of her house. She walked inside. "Mikalea!" her mother cried " I was just about to get you! We have won a thousand dollars!"
"That's what this is for."
Mikalea explained everything to her mother, the old woman, the racoon. And from then on, even though Mikalea had everything she needed, she was the same, kind person as always.
