emories come and go. Some memories are made from happy times and some are made from sad times. In both times there are high emotions as well as different feelings. Emotions and feelings are what create memories, at least the ones we will remember for years to come.
I have a lot of memories from times I spent with my friends. I have the most memories with one particular friend. He has been my best friend, forever. Sure we have had our disagreements, but through the tough times, we have stuck together.
Most people think that no matter how good of friends we are we will never be as close unless we were both of the same gender. It seems that we are even closer because we are so extremely different. Well, it is this immense closeness that has provided for some awesome memories.
One memory is from when we got lost in the woods. That may seem ironic but the feeling of being lost is one that will trigger emotions greater than words can tell. Not even the feeling of being lost can top my best memory.
The day started early and as I looked out the window of our car at the beautiful green scenery rushing past me. The sun was rising and the cloudless sky showed a promise of a hot and humid day. I turned to my mom, "How much longer? The party starts in 2 hours!" I said with panic in my voice. "Cool it, we will be there in 45 minutes," my mom replied without letting her eyes slip from the road. My mom is one of the parents that it takes a lot to even start annoying them. So I knew I was being ridiculous when I heard that tone in my mom's voice.
I turned to look out my window. Familiar landmarks rushed past me, and I began to daydream of what the party would be like. For Ben's sake, I hoped it would be fun. Past parties had been both good and bad, hopefully this will add to his list of successful parties.
I listened to the blissful sound of music coming from the radio. My mother sang along oblivious to the fact that she was not the only one in the car. I covered my ears and moaned. Immediately the singing stopped and the only sound that could be heard over the radio was the wind coming in the window and the hum of the tires on the road.
I sat there for the remainder of the trip up to Darrington looking out the window and identifying every landmark I could remember. I also thought of who would be at the party and whether I knew them or not. All of these thoughts vanished as we pulled into the driveway.
The car bumped and thumped as we went up the driveway. Ben, my best friend ran to greet us. I threw open my door, glad to be out of the car after are hour and a half trip. Ben grabbed my bags from the car and we both ran to their trailer where one of his friends sat inside on the bed. I had never met this one before. Ben introduced us and then we all sat down to watch a movie, Rocky.
About an hour later more kids arrived. Most I knew, one I didn't know. Automatically, we were friends though and it seemed like I had known then all my life. Only one gave me trouble and that was one of Ben's extremely great friends, but he was not one of his best friends. His name was Quinn.
There were 6 guys and me the only girl. Luckily, I knew all but 1 kid so I fit in with the guys like I was one of them. We caught snakes and spiders and dared each other to lick a slug. I was the first one to lick it. After I had licked it, Quinn found another slug and licked it. I knew he was trying to prove that he was tough so when the dare to eat a spider came around I let Quinn go first. He ate one and turned to me with a smile on his face. I grabbed the jar that held the 3 remaining spiders and unscrewed the lid. The spiders fell into my mouth and I bit down and just to make Quinn even more mad I stuck out my tongue with the bits of dead spider on it.
Ben's mom, Mush who I call Auntie M called for us to come open presents and eat. We all rushed in and began to eat as Ben opened his presents. As normal Ben was getting a lecture from every adult in the house about how you are supposed to open the card first and thank the person for the gift before you actually open it.
When the cake was gone and the presents were all opened, we ran out the door leaving everything in our paths in utter chaos. We dragged the hose across the yard and to the hillside on the other side of the mill. We turned on the water and let the soil and water mix to form mud. Keeping the water going we began sliding down the hill and each time we went down we brought up a bucket of mud.
Quinn didn't like the fact that I was having fun getting dirty so he was trying to think of a way to make me cry and look really girly. So he picked up a handful of mud and threw it at me as I reached the top of the hill. Much to his surprise I thought that it was funny and started to laugh. He got mad and started to go off in a huff when I called, "Don't think you are getting away easy," I called after him. He turned to respond and I threw my bucket of mud, that I had gotten before I came up, all over his clothes, which were clean because he didn't want to get them dirty. Much to everyone, but my amazement he to began to laugh. He came over and gave me a high-five. In a way he had been testing me to see if I was brave enough to fit in and that it wasnít just that Ben had persuaded everyone to like me.
It was getting dark and the sky was just a golden reminder of how beautiful the day had been. We had a dinner of steaming hot pizza brought out to the trailer for us. We sat down at the table and started eating the pepperoni pizza.
When the pizza had all been gobbled down we put the table down into a bed and pulled down the bunk over the table. We all sat down on the beds and Ben put in, "Pet Cemetery." The movie started out normal, but then began to have erie twists.
"Wow! This movie is creepy," Ben announced sticking his head under the covers. Everyone but Buck, Tyler, and I went under the covers. Tyler realized that most of the other guys were under the covers so he quickly ducked under the covers.
"Well I guess that Lora and I will just have to tell you wimps when the scary parts are over," replied Buck, looking at the pile of blankets that the group of boys were huddled underneath.
"Ok," was the response from all of them. After "Pet cemetery" was over Ben crawled out from under the covers and popped in "Pet cemetery 2" "You guys have to see this movie it's even creepier than the first one," Ben commented. So we all sat down to watch the movie.
"This movie isnít nearly as good as the first one," Quinn replied with a shudder.
"I'm with Quinn, this movie isn;t even as scary!" Buck remarked. "Look this movie is so boring that people are falling asleep." He gestured towards the few people who had fallen asleep. Ben got up and pushed the eject button. The movie popped out and Ben put in "Silence of the Lambs" "You guys will definitely like this movie," he replied.
The movie started and silence enveloped the small trailer. Just as Clarice Starling, the main actress of the movie, goes down to talk to Hannibal Lecter for the first time, we hear the soft pitter-patter of feet crossing the compacted dirt outside the trailer. We all look around to check that all seven of us are here and that it isn't just that someone went of a while ago to go to the bathroom and was just returning to the trailer. Much to our dismay everyone was present and accounted for. Then suddenly the sound stopped. We all looked at each other, thinking that maybe we had been the only one to hear it, that no one else heard it, maybe it was just a figment of our imagination.
A loud bang on the door and the previous thought, that we had been the only one to hear the foot steps, was demolished by screams from each one of us. Everyone gasped as the doorknob turned. The boys on the bed threw the covers over their heads. As the door opened and reveled the darkened form of Mush, Ben's mom.
"Bet I scared you" she replied as she looked at the boysí horrified faces. She turned to me, "Dolly, you need to get up especially early, so go in the house. You can sleep in Marly's bed, she went to Steph's house to stay the night."
I stood up and gathered my stuff, "Bye, hope to see you guys again," I replied as I strode out the door.
Everyone was saying bye as I shut the door behind me. I walked to the house in silence. When I went in I took of my muddy shoes and put them beside the fireplace, there was still a small glow of embers. I went into Marly's bedroom and laid down. As I went to sleep I thought about how great the day had been. And as I drifted of to sleep I could still hear their echoing goodbyes.
Sure, I forced myself to do weird things, that I enjoyed in the end. I'm sure that it was not the actual events that happened, that caused me to remember this, after everyone else forgot. It was the feeling of finally being excepted by someone, who had tried so hard to prove that he was better than you. Memories are made and kept and this is surely one I hope to keep.
