スティーブン・ウィッカモンは生まれた時、すでに歩くことができました。スティーブンは１５グラムしかありませんでしたが、とても力持ちでした。あんまり力持ちだったので、生まれたばかりでお父さんのことを持ち上げることができたほどです。
３才になるまでに、スティーブンはだれよりも速く走ることができました。スティーブンはたくさんの人に会いましたが、その中で、スティーブンより体重の軽い人はだれもいませんでした。スティーブンはおとなを２人、持ち上げることができました。
１０才になって、スティーブンは世界を見に出かけました。スティーブンが古いどろ道を歩いていると、煙のにおいがしてきました。そこでスティーブンはできるだけ速く（それは本当にすごいスピードです！）走って、煙のにおいについていきました。するとビルの燃えているのが見つかりました。スティーブンはビルの中に入って行くと、一度に３人の人をかかえて出てきました。結局、スティーブンは魚を４５匹、犬を１匹、ネコを２匹、鳥を４羽、そして人間を１０３人、助けました。
その中のひとりの目がスティーブンの目をとらえました。その人の名前はメアリー・ネカテリィといって、一目ぼれでした。メアリーはスティーブンに近づくと、「わたしのネコのエンジェルとわたしのことを助けてくださって、どうもありがとう」と、お礼をいいました。スティーブンは「どういたしまして」と、答えました。
次の週、２人は結婚しました。結婚式の後、メアリーはタップダンスをおどり始めました。メアリーは世界中のだれよりもタップダンスを上手におどることができました。そこでスティーブンは何か特別なことで、メアリーを感心させたいと思いました。スティーブンには考えがありました。スティーブンは千人の男の人にお願いをして、集まってもらいました。そして集まった男の人を全員、順番に上に重ねていきました。そしてメアリーを雲の上に運びました。２人は雲の上にすわりました。そこからは世界全部が見渡せました。メアリーはとてもすばらしいと、思いました。
１時間ほど、雲の上にすわってから、スティーブンは男たちに家に帰ってもいいよ、といいました。男たちは自由になれたので大喜びで帰っていきました。メアリーはそこで、「どうやったら雲から降りられるの？」と、たずねました。スティーブンはいいました。「こうするのさ！」
スティーブンはメアリーに雲から飛び降りたら、ドレスをパラシュートにするよう、いいました。メアリーはいわれた通りにしました。地面からメアリーはさけびました。「あなたはどうやって雲から降りてくるの？」スティーブンはとても軽かったので、ただ雲からフワフワと降りてきて、地面に着きました。メアリーはとても、とても感心しました。
次の朝、メアリー・ネカテリィとスティーブン・ウィッカモンは出発しました。２人はひとりの男と出会いました。男は世界中でだれよりも速く走れる、といいました。スティーブンが信用しなかったので、男はまたいいました。「おれが世界中で一番速い男だ。」スティーブンはそこで、その男の人と競争をすることにしました。メアリーがしんぱんです。
２人は湖まで走ることにしました。湖までは１００マイルほどあります。そして出発点まで戻ってくるのです。メアリーが「ヨーイ、スタート！」というと、２人は走り始めました。２人は全速力で走りました。湖で引き返そうとした時、２人とも水の中に落ちてしまいました。２人があんまり速く走ったので、水が水中の竜巻のようになりました。２人はあわてて、水の中から飛び出しました。２人は引き分けにすることにして、水中の竜巻のことはワールプール（うず巻き）と呼ぶことに決めました。
これがワールプール（うず巻き）のできた理由です。ワールプール（うず巻き）を見たら、スティーブン・ウィッカモンとメアリ・ネカテリィの話を思い出してね。
hen Steven Wickamong was born, he could already walk. He only weighed 1/2 ounce, but was very strong. He was so strong, he could lift his dad up even though he was just born.
By the time he was three, he could run faster than anyone he met. Out of the many people he met, none were lighter than he, and he had met many people. Now, he was able to lift two grown men.
When he was ten years old, he set out to see the world. When Steven was walking along the old dirt road, he smelled smoke. Running as fast as he could (which was very fast), he followed the smell of the smoke. Up ahead he saw a burning building. He ran into the building and out of the building carrying three people at a time. When he was done, he had saved 45 fish, 1 dog, 2 cats, 4 birds, and 103 people.
One of the people caught his eye, though. Her name was Mary Necatere. It was love at first sight. She came up to him and said, "Thank you for saving my cat, Angel, and me."
Steven replied, "You're welcome."The next week, they got married. After the wedding, Mary started to tap dance. It turned out she could tap dance better than anyone in the whole world. Then, Steven wanted to impress Mary with something special and he had an idea. He convinced one thousand men to come with him. He stacked all the men up on top of each other. Then he carried Mary up to the clouds. The two of them sat on top of the cloud. They could see the whole world from up there. Mary thought it was amazing.
After sitting up on the cloud for about an hour, Steven told the men they could go home. The men walked away very happy to get out of that stack. Then Mary asked, "How are we going to get down from off this cloud?" Steven replied, "I will show you."
He told Mary to jump and use her dress as a parachute. Mary did as she was told. From the ground, she called,"How are you going to get down off that cloud?" Since Steven was so light, he simply floated down from the cloud to the ground. Mary was very impressed.
The next morning, Mary Necatere and Steven Wickamong set out. They came upon a man. The man said he could run faster than anyone in the world. Steven did not beleive him so he said, "No, I am the fastest person in the world." Steven then challenged the person to a race. Mary was going to judge it.
They decided to run to the lake, which was 100 miles away, and back. When Mary said, "Go!", they started to run. They ran and they ran as fast as they could. When both of them were making the turn at the lake, they both fell into the water. They were running so fast, the water started to turn and soon it was like a tornado underwater. They both jumped out. They decided the race was a tie. They also decided to call the underwater tornado a whirlpool.
That is how whirlpools started. So, if you ever see as whirlpool, you will remember the story of Steven Wickamong and Mary Necatere.
