その日、ルーシーとケイトは、どこかに行きたい、と思っていました。２人とも、すっかりたいくつしていました。その日は祝日で、いっしょに遊んでくれる人がだれもいなかったのです。
「いい考えがあるわ」と、ケイトがいいました。「かくれんぼをして、遊びましょうよ。」
「そうしましょうよ！」と、ルーシーがいいました。ケイトは声を出さずに５５まで数えると、「さあ！行くわよ！」と、さけびました。本当は１５０まで数えなくちゃいけないのに！
ケイトはルーシーを探し始めました。２人はいつもかくれんぼをして遊んでいたので、ケイトにはルーシーのかくれている所はだいたい予想がついていました。そこでケイトは大きな木のところまで行くと、「見つけた！」と、いいました。ところが、ルーシーはいませんでした。ルーシーの代わりに、そこにはグルグルと大きなうずをまいている金の輪がありました。「助けて！」という声が聞こえました。ルーシーの声のようです。そしてそれは金の輪から聞こえてくるようでした。ケイトは心配になって、金の輪の中に飛び込みました。
叫び声！ケイトはルーシーの名前を呼びましたが、返事はありません。とつぜん、ケイトは何かにドスンとぶつかりました。「キャッ！」と、ケイトはいいました。あたりを見回してみると、そこにはおどろくような物ばかりです。チョコレートでできたお花。木は一見、ふつうの木に見えましたが、よく見ると葉っぱの代わりに５ポンド札がぶるさがっています。同じころ、ルーシーもおどろいて、ポカンとしていました。「ケイト、ケイト！！どこにいるの？」
ルーシーはあたりを見回しました。何か変な音が聞こえます。ルーシーはキャンディでできたお家のドアをノックしました。「どうぞいらっしゃい。」ソフトでやさしい声が聞こえてきました。
ルーシーは中に入ると、「ウエルカム」と書いてあるやわらかなお菓子のマットの上で足をこすりました。中には小さなかわいい女の人がいました。とても親切で良い人みたいです。
「こんにちは。あなたのお名前は？わたしはアイリーン。この土地はわたしの物なの。お気に召したかしら？」
「こんにちは！わたしはルーシー。とてもステキな場所だと思うわ。」
「あ、ちょっと！すわる前に、質問があるの。あなたにはケイトという名前の姉妹がいる？」
「ええ」と、ルーシーは答えました。
「そう。ここにケイトからのお手紙があるの。ケイトからルーシーという名前の姉妹に渡してほしいと、たのまれているのよ。」
ルーシーは手紙を開けると、読み始めました。
「ルーシーへ。助けて！とさけんだの、聞こえたかしら？ともかく、アイリーンはとても親切で、この先をまっすぐ行ったところに、お菓子でできたホテルがあるって、教えてくれたの。お天気がひどかったから、ホットチョコレートを飲ませてくれるのよ。そこはステキな場所ね！アイリーンにホテルまでの道を聞いてちょうだい。ホテルに着くころには、わたし、きっとねていると思う。だってとてもつかれているの。知っているでしょう？わたしって、いつもつかれているのよ。とても長いこと歩くから、ちゃんと食べ物の用意をしてきてね。アイリーンの家の前にはキャラメルのリンゴがあるし、それからチョコレートの川もあるわ。アイリーンは、アイスクリーム・トラックが時々来るといっていたから、１０ポンドの葉っぱのお札を取っておいてね。アイスクリームはとっても高いの。すぐに会えますように！愛をこめて、ケイト。キスをいっぱい送ります。」
「それじゃあ、ホテルまでの行き方を教えてもらえるかしら？そこはとても良さそうだし、ケイトに会いたいわ。」と、ルーシーはいいました。
「いいわ。ここから出たら、左に曲がるの。そうしたらキャンディ・フロス・アベニューと表示が出ているから、そこをまっすぐに行きます。すると、がいとうが見えてきて、そこにハムバグ・ホテルと書いてあるわ。あんまり遠そうではないけれど、でもこの土地を歩く時は、まるで永久に歩いているように感じるから、気を付けてね！！」
「わかったわ。さようなら」と、ルーシーはいいました。
ルーシーは食べ物の用意をして、それから１０ポンド札を持つと、ホテルに向かって出発しました。２時間くらい歩いて、やっとホテルに着きました。ルーシーはケイトを見つけて、２人でアイリーンの家にもどりました。それから家までの道順を教えてもらって、お家に帰りました。お家に着いてから、ケイトとルーシーの２人は、何が起きたかをみんなに話しました。そしてお家に帰れて、良かった！と思いました。
ucy and Kate wanted to go somewhere. They were bored, It was a bank holiday and nobody was around to play with them.
"I have an idea" said kate. "Lets play hide and seek".
"YEAH!" said Lucy. Kate had to count first up to 150. She counted silently and after she got to 55 she said "ready or not here I come!"
She went searching, they always played this and kate knew by know where Lucy hid so she went to a big tree and said BOO! but she wasn't there. What was there though was a big swirling gold circle. She could hear a HELP! and it sounded like Lucy. It was coming from the gold hole. Lucy started to worry. She jumped in after her.
Screaming, she shouted Lucy but there was no answer. All of a sudden she fell with a bump! "Ow" She said. She looked around her at all the amazing things. Flowers made of chocolate, and trees that looked normal but there was one thing instead of leaves there were ｣5.00 notes on it. Lucy stared in amazement. "KATE! KATE!!!! ARE YOU THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Lucy looked around. Then she heard a noise it sounded like a
chomping. Lucy knocked on a house made of candy."come in said a soft,gentle voice"
Lucy went in and carefully wiped her feet on a sweet soft mat saying warm welcome. Inside she saw a lovely little lady who looked quite nice and kind.
"Hello dear, and what is your name? My name is Irene and I am the owner of this land so do you like it."
"Hi my name is Lucy and I think this place is wonderful"
"oh um, before you sit down Lucy have you a sister named Kate?"
"yes" replied Lucy
"Well here is a note from her, She told me to give it to her sister named Lucy"
Lucy opened the letter and read:
Dear Lucy,
I hope you heard me shout help! Anyhow Irene has been really helpful and said there is a hotel down the way made of sweets and serve you some hot chocolate for tea cause there has been some awful weather. It is amazing here isn't it? Please ask Irene If you can have the directions for the hotel. I will probably be sleeping because I am very tired you know me I am always tired. It is quite a long journey so pack a picnic there are some nice toffee apples on her front door and get a drink from the chocolate river.
Irene said there is a ice-cream van that comes around so pick a leaf or two ｣10.00 will do fine the Ice cream is very dear mind.

"So can I have the directions to the hotel please. It sounds very nice and I am dieing to see my sister."
"ok. come out of here and turn left there you will see a sign saying Candy Floss Avenue, go ahead there you will see a lamppost saying Humbug Hotel and that's where it is. Mind you that dosen't sound far but when you walk in this land it feels like you have been walking forever!!!!"
"ok" said Lucy "Bye"
So she set off got a picnic and ｣10.00 and off she went. After what seemed like 2 hours she got there, saw her sister and walked back to Irene's house. After they got the directions home they went. Once they got home they told everybody what happened and they were glad they were home.
