昔々、アフリカの森には、真っ白なシマウマの群れが住んでいました。シマウマの女王様は大変イジワルで、名前をカザスといいました。カザスは真っ白でない生き物が大きらいで、森にいる色のついた生き物は全部、追い出してしまいました。
ある朝、カザスが食べ物を探しに出かけると、雨が降ってきました。雨はどんどん、降ってきます。とつぜん、雨の神様が降りてきて、カザスに言いました。「おまえは森の動物たちにひどいイジワルをしてきたな。みんな、さばくでお腹をすかせているじゃないか。森の中に色のついた動物が住むことをゆるされければ、おまえにばつを与えるぞ」これを聞いて、女王様のカザスは群れに戻っていきました。するとカザスは２匹のちょうちょを見つけました。カザスは怒り狂って、ちょうちょを追放してしまいました。
その夜、雨がはげしく降り始めました。雨の神様がまたやってきて、カザスに話しかけました。「ばかもの！あれほど注意をしたというのに。これではおまえをばっしなくてはならないぞ」そう言うと、雨の神様はシマウマたちにカミナリを落としました。シマウマたちの体にはカミナリのせいで、一頭残らず、黒のしまもようができてしまいました。シマウマに黒白もようができたのは、こういうわけなのです。
long time ago in an African forest there lived a clan of pure white zebras. The queen of the zebras was a mean zebra named Cazas. She hated creatures who weren't pure white and she banned all colored creatures from the forest.
One morning Cazas went out looking for food when it started to rain. It rained and rained and rained. Suddenly the rain god came down and said to her," You have been very mean to all the animals. They are starving in the desert. You must allow colored animals to live in the forest or you will be punished."
The queen went back to her clan. She saw two butterflies .She became furious and she banished them.That night it began to rain very hard. Again the river god came down and spoke the Cazas, "You fool !!! I warned you and now you will be punished."
The rain god sent down lighting strikes to hit every zebra. The lighting made jagged black stripes on all of the zebras. And that's how the zebra got its stripes.
