むかしあるところに、小さなおとこの子とおんなの子がすんでいました。おとこの子のなまえはジェームス、おんなの子のなまえはミッシェルといいました。
ある日、ジェームスとミッシェルはハングマン・ゲームを見つけました。ゲームには「おたんじょう日おめでとう」とかかれていました。ところがつぎの日のあさになったら、ハングマン・ゲームが見あたりません。ジェームスとミッシェルは、ドロボウがゲームをもって、にげていくのを見つけました。
けれどもドロボウはただのドロボウではありませんでした。ドロボウはまほうつかいだったのです。ジェームスとミッシェルはおうまで、まほうつかいのあとをおいかけました。おうまのなまえは、ジムといいました。
ふたりは森のおくへおくへとはいっていきました。とつぜん、雨がふり出しました。ジムはジェームスとミッシェルのお父さんがたきぎをつくっていたところに、ふたりをつれていきました。ジェームスとミッシェルはたきぎで、小さなこやを作りました。
つぎのあさ、雨がひどくなったので、ふたりはこやをお舟に作りかえました。お舟はまほうつかいのおしろまで、ながれていきました。ジェームスとミッシェルはゲームをとりかえすと、森の中をとおって、おうちにかえりました。ふたりはそれからずっと、しあわせにくらしました。
nce upon a time there was a little boy and girl and their names were James and Michelle.One day they found a game of Hangman. It said 'Happy Birthday' on it, but when they went to find it the next morning, it was no longer there. They saw the burglar running away with it.
It was not an ordinary burglar - it was a witch. They followed the witch burglar on their horse. Their horse's name was Jim.
Deeper and deeper they went into the forest. Then it started to rain. But Jim took them to where their father had been chopping firewood. James and Michelle built a hut.
The next morning the rain was so heavy they turned their hut into a boat and it floated to the witch's castle. They got their game back and went back through the forest to their home where they lived happily ever after.
