ag Max yelled. He was playing freeze tag with his friends, Jake, Sullivan, Jennifer and Sandy. Suddenly there was a big crash of thunder and lightning.
Time to go inside mom yelled.
All of us went inside. Im scared said Jennifer.
Itll be all right. Its not a very bad storm. It should be over soon. said mom.
I have heard of people getting killed in thunder storms said Max.
Be quiet Max. Sandy said.
Just as Sandy was talking, the lights had went out. The children had gone up the stairs and were in the attic exploring.
Look at this! It is an old sewing machine. said Sullivan.
Hey, that is cool said Jennifer.
They found an old table with one leg, some old nails, and lots of other things. They were still up in the attic and the storm was still going. Sullivan was still looking at the old sewing machine. But he didnt notice that there were more old nails on the floor, or that the floor was very wet.
OH MY WORD!! Jake yelled.
Whats the matter Jake? asked Sullivan.
I think we just blew off the house!!! said Jake.
Dont be silly Jake said Jennifer.
I dont care what you guys think! Im going downstairs to talk with your mom, Max! said Jake.
He started crying. Then he walked downstairs. Ahhhhh! Jake yelled as he fell downstairs and into the CLOUDS!
So what do we do? asked Sullivan.
Thats a very good question. Does anybody have an answer? asked Max.
I say we go out and look for him! said Jennifer.
Hey wait a minute! There are more nails on the floor and it is very wet in here. THINK! said Sandy.
What is it Sandy? asked Max.
Dont you guys SEE! The nails are on the floor because the attic flew off the house with us in it. So when the attic blew off into the sky, some of the nails fell off. It is so wet in here because we blew off the house and that caused leaks. Dont you see? said Sandy.
I get it now! Sullivan said.
Yes! and what we have to do to get Jake back is to look, and the only way to look is to go out! said Jennifer.
The next morning, it was still raining and the kids were having a meeting in the attic (Which is still in the sky).
Okay! Is everybody ready to have their greatest adventure of their lives? said Max. Everybody answered yes.
Wait a minute! Are you sure? There is a very good chance someone could get hurt, even killed. Just remember, were doing this for Jake. So if any one wants out now is the time to do it. said Max.
Im out! said Sullivan.
Me too! said Jennifer.
Me three! said Sandy.
Wait a minute!!! I thought we were doing this for Jake. Arent you his friend? Or you? Or you? Or you?
Im back in said Sandy.
Me too! said Jennifer.
Dont you need some one to watch over the attic? Im a great watch dog. said Sullivan.
Max knew Sullivan really did not want to go. Max thought and thought.
Okay. You can stay. said Max.
Oh great! I promise Ill stay in the attic. Thank-you! said Sullivan.
Are we ready? asked Max.
Yes! everybody yelled.
Carefully, the children (except Sullivan) walked down the stairs and opened the door. Down below them, there were lots of clouds.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine and Jump! yelled Max.
They all jumped.
Bye-bye! Have fun. Ill watch over the attic for you! yelled Sullivan.
Sullivan watched them drop and drop and drop. He walked back up the stairs of the flying attic.
Now what shall I do? said Sullivan. Hey, I think I saw a old black-and-white TV by the sewing machine! he talked to himself.
He walked over to the sewing machine and soon found the television. It was a dusty old thing. Sullivan dusted it off and turned it on. The attic was so high up in the sky that the television only had two channels. They were CBS and The Weather Channel.
Oh great. I got a TV but it only has two channels said Sullivan. He decided to watch CBS. 60 Minutes was on. I dont want to watch 60 Minutes. I hate 60 minutes! he complained. He switched to The Weather Channel. Nothing on here said Sullivan. Hey wait, theres a tornado warning for Patrick, Shinings and Crosset counties. Sullivan thought. Then he remembered. They were in Crosset county!
All my friends are in great danger! yelled Sullivan. And Im the only one who can save them! said Sullivan.
Suddenly the attic started twirling around and around. It was the tornado. And Sullivan was right in the middle of it! The TV had gone dead. Sullivan felt like he was going to be dead. The attic kept twirling faster and faster. The door flung open. Sullivan thought it was Max and the others. But it wasnt. It was just the tornado. The door was still open. Things started sliding out the door. First the television fell out. Then a very old radio fell out. Then the sewing machine fell out.
Meanwhile, Max, Jennifer and Sandy were still looking for Jake. They had gone very far away from the attic. They were no where near a tornado. They were in Kredel county. Kredel county was more than thirty-five miles away from the attic and they did not even know it. The thunderstorm had stopped (thank-goodness). But it was still hard to find Jake. He could be any where, even in the clouds! Max and Jennifer were looking in the clouds.
While Sandy looked out in the plain old sky. Things were still going out the door. An old box of clothes went out. Then Sullivan went out. Hey wait a minute. Did I say Sullivan went out? Oh no. I must of got carried away. Lets see what happens.
Sullivan went down the tornado and dropped right on the stairs in Maxs home.
Hey! Im back! Maybe it was just a dream! Ill go wake up the others! said Sullivan. but then he stopped. Where was the attic? And where were his friends? He went into Maxs bedroom and fell asleep on Maxs bed. Max, Jennifer and Sandy found Jake! He was very pale. They took him out of the cloud. He was all right.
They went back down to earth and lived happy ever after. Except for that poor old attic. You dont want to know what happened to it.
