went sailing, sailing by
On the foamy brine it seemed to fly
Above it stretched the fair blue sky
And it's flag flew on the mast so high.
On the flag there beamed a golden sun,
The sailors danced as their work was done
Their loud, bass voices full of the fun
Of the sea and the spray and the beating drum.
Under the sea, the fishes flashed fast
Streaks of silver and gold that swam past
And suddenly a column of water was blast
From a great blue whale that was higher than the mast!
The sounds of a jig rent the clean, sea air
As the bagpiper played from his
Then suddenly as a rock filled the ocean there
One sailor saw a bit of golden hair...
A mermaid sat on an, old grey rock
And she sang in a loud clear voice
And her voice was so beautiful, all the sailors shook
And would have leaped into the waves of choice.
But the captain was wise, an old seadog
And he bound all his men to the mast
And thesailed by, though the sailors strained
To die with the mermaid at last.
A
