Sachiko Oba (Sachi) is the creator and executive director of Kids' Space, a New York based non-profit organization devoted to providing safe, fun and educational places on the Internet for kids. A pioneer in the development of quality World Wide Web content for children, Ms. Oba first introduced Kids' Space as her personal homepage in March of 1995. Since that time Kids' Space has gained a huge international following with over 200,000 children hailing from over 160 countries around the world each month.In addition to receiving an outpouring of support from children who choose to make Kids' Space their home on the Internet, Sachi has earned widespread critical acclaim for innovatively engaging children in creative activities on the Web. From winning the Best Network Award at the 1995 Multi Media Grand Prix in Tokyo, the First Prize at 1998 Childnet International/Cable & Wireless Awards Scheme in London, to the NASDAQ Education Award at the Tech Museum 2001 contest in San Jose, Ms. Oba consistently delivers web sites that are loved by children because they are fun and treasured by parents, teachers and concerned professionals because they are safe and educational.
Sachi is widely recognized in Japan as an opinion leader in the field of children and digital media. She has published a number of articles on the subject and frequently lectures and conducts Internet and digital media workshops for teachers, mothers and children. In addition she has authored four books on using computers and writing web pages using HTML.
Ms. Oba received her graduate education at Columbia University in New York, earning both a Master of Education and a Master of Arts degree. In her spare time Sachi is an accomplished pianist and artist. Ms. Oba travels extensively but she regards New York City as her home.
