bear On Listening to sound files
__________

There are three file types used in the On Air Concert: MIDI, WAV, and QuickTime. MIDI is a small file that can be listened to quickly. WAV is a large file that needs some time to download. These two types can be used by any browsers.

QuickTime at the On Air Concert is a movie file that has sound data only. This is a convenient type to listen to a music without waiting, but it requires a proper browser and a plug-in.

Go to the test page first, and see if you can listen to a QuickTime file.

If your answer at the test page is "YES", then please select one from the three categories. You will see a list of musicians and programs.

  1. Cool Compositions!
    Original compositions created by kids.
  2. Inspiring Instruments!
    Musical performances by kids.
  3. Soothing Songs!
    Favorite songs performed by kids.

If your answer is "NO", then first check your browser.

Use:

  1. Netscape 4.5
    OR
  2. MS Internet Explorer 4.x

When your browser is older, you will experience:
  1. Quick Time Controllers are shown one by one. Cannot listen to all music files.
    OR
  2. The Controller turns into a broken image file
    OR
  3. Many cautions come up and you cannot move from a page until all cautions are presented.

Next, check if QuickTime 3.0 plug-in is installed.

  1. Netscape on a PC: in the menu, select "GO" and then "About Plug-ins"

  2. MS Internet Explorer on a PC: in the menu, select "FILE" and then "Internet Explorer Component Download"

  3. Netscape on a Mac: select the Apple Menu and find "About Plug-ins"

  4. MS Internet Explorer on a Mac: Find a folder that contains the browser, and then open the "Plugins" folder.

If you do not have the QuickTime 3.0 plug-in, download it from the QuickTime 3.0 Plug-in Page

If you do not have the QuickTime Plug-in, and wish to listen to the music from other formats, click a speaker icon. A console will appear.
If you do not see the console, then make sure the LiveAudio Plug-in is installed.

MIDI files are small and the music starts quickly, but other sound formats (such as WAV) will take a much longer time and must be fully downloaded before they can be played.

Some MIDI Plugins automatically shows a control panel(s) or a console. Refer to the documentation that came with the plugin file.
