"The THRITEEN Animals of the Chinese Zodiac"
by
Tsukiko Japan
Long ago, God invited the 13 animals -the cat, the rat, the ox, the tiger, the rabbit, the dragon, the snake, the horse, the goat, the monkey, the rooster, the dog, and the pig- to a banquet the next day, and don't be late. When the mischevious rat heard the news, he told his neighbor, the cat, that the banquet was the day after tomorrow. The next day, all the animals lined up in a procession, with the rat riding all the way there on the back of the cow. With a flourish, the rat leapt across the finish line, securing first plae in the calander. All of them had a great time. All of them, that is, except for the poor, poor cat, who was still sleeping at home, dreaming of the banquet the next day thatn would never come.
