The greatest event of the 20th century was the flight of Man into space. That is why Yuri Gagarin is one of the most impressive person of the 20th century because he was the first man who made his historic flight into space.
The men who were standing behind Soviet space strategy were Konstantin Tsiolkovsky and Sergei Korolev. With Gagarin`s flight to cosmos Tsiolkovsky`s dreams came true. A new age of space exploration began.
Yuri Gagarin was born on the 9th of March 1936. He was born in the village of Klushino in the Smolensk region. After the war Gagarin`s family moved to Gzhatsk. Now it is Gagarin.It was named after the first cosmonaut.
In 1955 he entered a school for pilots. Then he became a pilot and joined the first group of cosmonauts.
In 1960 he began to prepare for the flight into space. On April 12,1961, Yuri Gagarin flew into space and spent 108 minutes there. In commemoration of this outstanding event this day was proclaimed Cosmonaut`s Day in Russia.
Russian spaceship "Vostok " with the man on board was in space. After his flight he visited many countries and saw millions of people. Gagarin became a hero of our country.
He dided in 1968, but peoples always remember the first Russian cosmonaut, one of the most impressive persons of the 20th century.
