"They're so pretty...I want to collect them all and make a sanctuary for them. They will fly for me, fly around me in a circle! I will know each one by name, I will know all the fireflies...and know how many of them are in the world!" Hannah said to her mother. She twirled around and around on the fresh green grass. Her wings spread out, ready to glide. Her eyes blending with the grass, her hair matching the color of the tree trunk. Her modern-outfit was something her mother though was not for faeries, but she didn't mind. Normal humans wore it, so why couldn't she?
"Ah, Hannah, my girl if only it were true. You have such a wild imagination, like mine when I was a girl. Now I'm just an old woman of a mother," Hannah's mother said. Hannah didn't care what her mother said. There had to be some way to make her dream come true. She was a faerie! Couldn't she just used magic to make it happen? She'd asked her mother this over and over again and her mother always said the same thing,"Magic doesn't solve everything." Hannah sighed and went outside. It was daytime, so her lovely little angels weren't out. Their wonderful little lamps didn't float about.
Her friend walked up to her just as she was sitting down.
"Hannah, why are you here? The club has a meeting right now!" Carla said.
"Not right now, Carla, not right now. Tell them I'm sick...or I died..or something. I think I'll sit here until nighttime..when the fireflies come out,"she said, dreamily.
"Listen to you! Why don't you just marry a firfly?" Carla complained.
"No, I want to build a sanctuary for them. A place where everyone who loves their beauty can come and rest and watch them!"
"Hannah, listen to me. This is your sanctuary. Nature is your sanctuary. Do you want to take your beloved fireflies away from their first home? Away from everything they know? How would you feel if someone cooped you up in a room? A strange room where you might never get used to? Hannah, you've been in your sanctuary all along," Carla said. Hannah smiled. Carla was right, and always now, you can come to Hannah's town and every time the firflies are out, she's sitting on her favorite hill watching them swirl around her.
