"Here kitty kitty! Here kitty kitty!" A girl of 12 called sweetly, slaping her knees. "Come girl! Come on! Look I've got fresh milk! Come on girl!" She pointed to a bright red dish full of cool milk.
The kitten jumped out of the tree that it had sat in for so long.
"Good girl." She said picking up the cat. "I'm Tracy, your new owner. Come on, let me show mom my new pet!' The cat meowed continualy. It seemed to be saying, "NO!! Your not my owner!"
"No! Absalutely not!" Tracy's mother ordered. "You take that cat right back outside. We agreed on no cats. A dog maybe, but no cats! You know your sister has alergies. Now take him out!"
"Oh mom. It wont be an inside cat, it can live outside. Why, Patty Sepp has an outside cat. Why can't we?"
"Fine outside. But you can't keep her. Only untill we find the owner. Now go take pictures of the cat so that I can have them coppied onto signes. Scat!" Tracy's mother wasn't happy.
They decided to name the kitten Paws. Because of her cute little paws. And indeed they did put up LOST CAT signs. But after a while they dicided that she was a stray.
Suddenly one afternoon the phone rang. Tracy answered it,
"Hello." She said.
The voice on the other line said "Hello. I'm calling for that orange cat. I think it's mine."
"Don't you know? Is there any way we can tell for sure?"
"Yes. Under her left back paw there is a small redish brownish scar. Check and see if she has one."
Tracy set down the phone and called paws into the kitchen. She checked the back left paw. And she was amazed at what she found. A small redish brownish scar! Tracy tramped back to the phone.
"Yes it's there."
"Oh great! I'll be by to pick it up tomorrow morning. Thank-you for keeping Pues safe!"
"Um excuse me, why do you call it Pues (p-yews)?"
"Becuase of her blue eyes and small round paws." And with that the man hung up the phone.
The next morning a tall man in a suit and tie, and a women with a long lignt yellow dress on, rang the doorbell. Tracys mother let them in. The women called Pues. As she came bounding into the living room the lady smiled gayly.
"Thank-you ever so much!! You don't know how much this kitten means to me!!" The grownups talked for a while before the visiters left.
Now Pues Paws had her home back. And she was happy.
