ある日、アキコが道を歩いていると、とつぜん、大きな虹が頭の上に現われました。家に向かって歩きながら、アキコはふと、虹がまだ頭の上にあることに気がつきました。アキコはこんなふしぎな虹を頭の上にくっつけておくのは良くないと、全速力で走り出しました。ようやくお家につくと、アキコはドアをしめて、お部屋にかけこみました。
そして窓から外を見上げてみました。するとそこには大きな顔がいて、アキコを見つめているではありませんか！アキコはもう少しで、悲鳴を上げるところでした。ところがその大きな顔がいいました。
「心配しないで。あなたを傷つけたりしないから。わたしは偉大な虹の鳥です」
「それじゃあ、道をついてきたのは、あなた？」と、アキコは聞きました。
「こわがらせて、ごめんなさい。おわびのしるしに、わたしの背中に乗せてあげましょう」と、鳥がいいました。
「まあ、ありがとう！」と、アキコはいい、鳥の背中へ飛び乗りました。
夕日に向かって飛んでいくうちに、鳥の放つ光が何百ものびみょうな美しい色にかがやき始めました。鳥がアキコを家の前でおろし、アキコは鳥にお礼をいいました。すると、鳥はやわらかな光を出しながら、水平線の向こうへと、飛んでいってしまいました。それからアキコはもう２度と、鳥に会うことはありませんでした。
One day Akiko was walking down the street when all of a sudden a huge rainbow appered over her head. As she walked towards home she noticed that the rainbow was still over her head! She decided that it was probably not a good idea to hang around with a mysterious rainbow abouve her head so she sprinted as fast as she could home, slamed her door shut and ran to her room.
When she went to look out her window she saw a huge face staring back at her! She was about to scream but then the huge face said
"Dont worry,I won't hurt you. I'm the Great Rainbow Bird".
"So it was you following me down the street" She said.
"I'm sorry if I scared you" Said the rainbow bird. "How about I take you for a ride on my back as a way of saying sorry" Asked the bird.
"Ok thanks" Akiko said and hopped on the birds back.
As they flew into the sunset the light from the bird Begain
to glow millions of different shades of colours. After the bird
had dropped Akiko off at her house she said thank you to the bird
and it flew away emitting a soft glow as it flew over the horrizon
and was never saw again.
